Resumen del Editor

From behind the walls of a handful of well-hidden, unlikely recording studios in the Los Angeles area, legends-in-waiting created masterpiece albums. It was a time of astonishing creativity and unprecedented fame and fortune. It was also a time of unfettered excess that threatened to unravel everything along the way.

With access that only a longtime music business insider can provide, Kent Hartman packs Goodnight, L.A. with never-before-told stories about the most prolific time and iconic place in rock 'n' roll history. He brings the stories to life through new in-depth interviews with classic rock artists and famous producers. What Hartman's The Wrecking Crew was to pop singles, AM radio, and the '60s, Goodnight, L.A. is to album cuts, FM radio, and the high-flying, hard-rocking '70s and '80s.

Fantastic Rock History...Once Again

This is from the same author who wrote "The Wrecking Crew." I was completely blown away with the music history of that book that when I saw he had written a book that sort of picks up where the last one ended...I couldn't dig in fast enough.

His first book basically showed how the sausage was made behind the scenes with a group of session musicians and clever producers. This book is more about how the music industry went from being focused on short single hits to selling out full albums, and the trials and tribulations that entailed. As with the first book the reader or listener (This reader on the recording was perfect for this book) hears the stories of how many of these big name bands or primary performers....Almost didn't make at all. It makes me wonder how many great groups just didn't get that magic break some place?

I really hope this author is still writing about the music history. He barely had anything regarding groups from Europe. Between the Beatles, Stones, and others in the "British Envasion" he could easily have a book primarily on that and then a follow up book on great performers like Rory Gallagher, Alvin Lee, and many others who did great in Europe, but never really became super stars in America. I would purchase any other music history he writes in a heart beat. I just love this stuff.

Greatest Audible Books

This one contains so much more than I could have hoped for. Having met Keith at Goodnight L. A., I was interested in hearing his story. But this provides unexpected insights.

Absolutely Fantastic Story!

This was well written and narrated. I was fortunate enough to be in Keith Olsen's studio (Goodnight L.A.) in the 80's while he recorded an album and he was an amazing talent. Unfortunately, Keith just passed away a couple of weeks ago. If you are looking to read / listen to a story about the history of the music scene in LA this is a must!

The Stories Behind Classic Rock Albums

This book describes both the producer and the musicians’ activities while creating some of Rock’s classic albums. A very fascinating read, and an excellent and enthusiastic narrator.

Fun read about a guy convicted for kiddie porn

This book is a decent, if not slightly boring insider take on stories you've probably already heard several times. Unfortunately one of the main characters, Waddy Wachtel, was convicted for possession of child pornography. Wasn't thrilled to have wasted so much time reading about the guy.
