Forced to leave her community with her family, Clara Burkholder is cast into a miserable life of work and drudgery. She misses being Amish and longs to return. When she hears that Jonas, her childhood friend, has returned to the community, Clara becomes even more desperate. She longs to reach out but can’t find a way. Not until tragedy strikes.
Jonas Garber is putting his foot down. After growing up in the Amish community and being forced to relocate with his family, he has returned and is determined to remain. His father thinks otherwise and has visited several times to convince him to return, but Jonas knows he is right. Or is he?
Disaster looms, and Jonas’ convictions are shaken. He needs comfort, which comes in the form of a letter from his friend Clara whom he’s never stopped loving. But things have changed; Clara is no longer Amish. Can they find even ground? Or will their present circumstances keep them apart forever?

A moment comes along when she finds out that Jonas, her childhood friend, has returned home and she decides to do the same. But the road back home is filled with challenges and obstacles. Luckily, Going Back Home has a happy ending and throughout the adventure we are feeling a positive energy pulling the two friends together.
The audiobook version of Going Back Home is brought to life with talent, emotion, and professionalism by experienced narrator and voice actress, Trudi Knoedler. She reads in her instantly recognizable voice and delivers a strong, energetic, and immersive performance.
The audio production is just a few minutes under 2 hours in duration and although the writing is good, what truly elevates this work of fiction to an entirely higher level of entertainment is Trudi‘s lively narration. Right from the beginning she pulls the listener in with the natural way she reads. Add to that some credible Germanic accents spoken softly enough as not to intrude or take away from the story, and you will experience a captivating tale of love, faith, and hardships.
This is not my first audiobook with Trudi Knoedler behind the mic and I am always looking forward to her performance because she manages to bring any story to life in a pleasant, unique, and entertaining way. I think she was just perfect for Going Back Home and I can’t wait to listen to more audiobooks narrated by her.
If you like short romance audiobooks and are fascinated by the Amish culture, I highly recommend that you check out Going Back Home.
