Resumen del Editor

Full Tilt

You can't outrun your past, even if you were a superstar

Everett Lester, former front-man for the heavy metal band DeathStroke and one of the world’s most recognized celebrities, has turned over a new leaf. The Living Water Tour will take Everett back on the road as he performs his music for a new cause - but he quickly learns that outrunning his dark and tumultuous past will be impossible. Everett’s wife, Karen, has received news that has rocked their world.

Everett’s gambling-addicted brother Eddie and the rest of his deteriorating family greet Everett’s new ambitions with hatred and disdain. And when the Mob closes in on Eddie, Everett and Karen are dragged into a nightmare-like world of unthinkable threats and diabolical violence. As if that wasn’t enough, Eddie’s son Wesley blames Everett for his brother’s death. When Wesley hooks up with psychotic Tony Badino, the two meth-heads and their gang will stop at nothing to bring Everett down - and whoever else they need to take with him.

With tension in every scene, Amazon number-one best-selling author Creston Mapes demonstrates why he is a "top pick" among mystery, fiction, and thriller lovers. Fans of Frank Peretti, Terri Blackstock, Ted Dekker, Joel Rosenberg, Lynette Eason, Susan Sleeman, Colleen Coble, and Christy Barritt will love this thriller from award-winning and best-selling author Creston Mapes.

About the Author

Creston Mapes grew up in Northeast Ohio, where he has fond memories of living with his family of five in the upstairs' portion of his dad's early American furniture store - The Weathervane Shop. Creston was not a good student, but the one natural talent he possessed was writing.

He set type by hand and cranked out his own neighborhood newspaper as a kid, then went on to graduate with a degree in journalism from Bowling Green State University. Creston was a newspaper reporter and photographer in Ohio and Florida, then moved to Atlanta, Georgia, for a job as a creative copywriter for a printing firm/ad agency.

Creston served for a stint as a creative director, but quickly learned he was not cut out for management. He went out on his own as a freelance writer in 1991 and did work for Chick-fil-A, Coca-Cola, The Weather Channel, Oracle, ABC-TV, Johnson Controls, TNT Sports, colleges and universities, ad agencies and more. He's ghost-written more than 10 nonfiction books.

Along the way, Creston has written 10 contemporary thrillers, achieved Amazon best seller status, and had one of his novels (Nobody) optioned as a major motion picture. He plans to continue writing fiction into the sunset.

Creston married his fourth grade sweetheart, Patty, and they have four amazing kids who range from 21 to 31 years old. Creston loves his part-time job as an usher at local venues were he gets to see all the latest-greatest concerts and sporting events. He enjoys reading, fishing, time with his family, and dates with his wife.

Enjoyable but not fantastic

It took awhile to get through this book. I did enjoy it (Creston Mapes is superb), but I wasn’t compelled to keep listening because I was enraptured with the story. The narrator wasn’t as good as others, but I thought the way he said “Mr. Lestah” was funny. I hope the prequel has all this one lacked.

Nice Conclusion To "THE ROCK STAR CHRONICLES"

In the sequel to DARKSTAR, Ev and Karen's saga continues but much of the story is about their nephew Wesley. Wes has many problems~his parents, drugs, and even mobsters. Like the previous story, this too has a Christian theme~thoroughly enjoyed listening.

Enjoyed the story - narrator unable to voice many

Enjoyed the story - narrator unable to voice many of writer's expressions, etc. It was frustrating to hear because it was obvious how it was intended to be read, but narrator obviously was unable to say it that way. I don't get it ...

It was okay.

I did really appreciate the Christian aspects of the book and wanted to like it a lot more but ended up just getting through it. I struggle with books where the plot depends on the stupidity of the protagonist. Bad luck I can accept, but when every shred of tension comes from yet another stupid decision I will eventually start rooting for the bad guys. This book didn't go that far, but Everett did make a number of decisions that no reasonable person would make. I also noticed a few things like a Honda becoming a Hyundai, a character pushing himself in a wheelchair only days after a severe injury that would have prevented that action, etc. So for me, two stars is "ok" three stars would be "good".

Good second book in the series

Is there anything you would change about this book?

As genres go this is not one that is for me. That is not the books fault, it is mine fore jumping out of my usual reading box. However, fans of Christian reads will eat this up with a spoon!

If you’ve listened to books by Creston Mapes before, how does this one compare?

It is very similar to the first book in the series in that there is a lot of Christian content. It is even more here because Lester is now looking to testify. It is deep and makes you think. I am sure many will find it very inspirational.

What aspect of Troy Klein’s performance would you have changed?

I enjoyed his read for the most part, there were some weird pitch things he did that were annoying. I was also not a fan of his deep pauses between sentences. I was a fan of his rich tone and would be interested to hear more of his work. I will give him credit for staying consistent throughout the read.

Any additional comments?
