Resumen del Editor

In the near future where ancient enemies sit on the brink of war, 17-year-old Michael Saxon carries a powerful secret inside his DNA that both sides will do anything to acquire.

When he was just seven years old, Michael's parents, scientists at a private military contractor called Enbright, vanished without a trace and left Michael a small crystal. Haunted by nightmares, Michael is desperate to discover the truth about his parents and is convinced the crystal holds the key.

Following high school, Michael accepts an internship at Enbright, despite his reservations, and puts his spelunking skills to work, helping locate powerful artifacts. Before long, Michael and his young independent and mysterious coworker, Emma, discover two rival ancient societies will stop at nothing to acquire the artifacts for themselves.

As romance blossoms between Michael and Emma, they soon find themselves embroiled in a rousing global adventure full of narrow escapes, traitorous villains, and shocking realities. They must navigate the lies and deceit that lurk around every corner if Michael is to discover the secret of his identity and prevent a world war. But is he ready for the responsibility that comes with knowing the truth?

The narrative is not my cup of tea.

I love the accent, however the narrative sounds like reading a story from a child, I imagine a 7 year old for the main carracter. I could not get into the story, the idea sounds promising but it does not deliver.
As I received this audiobook for free from the narrator in change of review I really really wanted to like it. I gave it more effort than many others, although after a couple of weeks of starting it over and over I am giving up.

Everything but the kitchen sink

Jam packed with gadgets and tech, caves and crystals. It had action and a bit of a love thread. But this book brought up way more questions than it answered. Didn't care for Emma at all. Felt the book could have been written better. Characters felt one dimensional. Narration was good.

I wanted to like it.

I really did want to like this book, but unfortunately it was just not good. As many others have said, the story and characters were one dimensional and boring. I couldn't bring myself to care what happened.

The narration was better, but still not what I would call good. Leanne Yau has a pleasant voice I think and a lot of potential, but her delivery here needed work. At times there were so many awkward pauses and clobbered sentences (emphasis on the wrong word, a mid-sentence break, that sort of thing) that it was hard to follow the story. It was like she was reading off of note cards scribbled by someone with really bad handwriting. It didn't flow at all.

But who knows, maybe the awkward narration was just because of the poor writing. It would be hard to tell without looking at a print version of the book. Maybe it's riddled with misplaced commas or something like that. In any case, I wouldn't discount Leanne Yau because of it. I think she could be great in other books.

However, the best description I can give for this book is that it is rambling and incoherent. I cannot recommend it to anyone.

Excellent narration!

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

I found the narrator to be great, this book is geared more to a younger crowd but I still enjoyed the story.

One dimensional.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

People who are just getting into book reading or audiobook listening might like this book. But it didn't quite work for me. The writing style was somewhat lackluster and the characters were one dimension and lacked depth. After trying to get into the story and trying hard to care for the characters, I gave up.

What aspect of Leanne Yau’s performance would you have changed?

The performance itself was fine. The voice was clear and I had no trouble understanding the narration.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

It actually failed to spark any reaction from me. As I mentioned earlier, the story wasn't able to build any interest in me.

Any additional comments?

I received this book free of charge from the author / narrator / publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

A decent sci fi book with great narration

I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Having been familiar with Leanne Yau as a narrator I was open to trying this one out. I thought the summary sounded interesting and was not disappointed. This book "feels" as though it is geared to a younger audience, but I still enjoyed the story. The story has a good pace and it was no surprise to me that Leanne Yau did a great job narrating it.
