Action Packed Sci-Fi At Its Best!

Brainrush Trilogy: Box Set by Richard Bard, is wonderfully action packed sci-fi Audible, that contains 3 Books in one set So, it's a really great value. I've listened to the first book in the set and am about to begin the 2nd. The book is narrated by the very talented R.C. Bray, who gives voice to each of the interesting cast of characters and expertly brings them to life. I highly recommend this exciting trilogy.

Wasn’t what I had hoped

I would have liked a lot more SF. That is why I chose it. The main reason it was tough to get through was my preoccupation with the way Mr. Bray pronounced words like hadn’t, couldn’t, didn’t, wouldn’t. It drove me nuts. I am willing to say that it is my problem, not his, but those words were not said correctly. It was like hearing Bush2 say nuc-u-ler. I winced whenever he said any of them.

Wonderful, Thrilling and Unique

I love this series! I selected this trilogy solely because it was narrated by R.C. Bray, but what a find! This author is now in my favorites!

Good value, but not for me.

This omnibus is a good value, but the story is a bit immature and predictable. The narrator does a great job. The story and characters just didn't do anything for me. I didn't hate it, but I would have if I bought the books separately.

Zero storyline

Narration is great but there’s just no story it’s just fight after fight with nothing in between and no development at all. Book one is 3 1/2 stars but book 2 is two stars and couldn’t even make it to book 3

Dumb fun!

This isn't great literature by a long shot, (more like an endless wanna-be Tom Cruise Mission Impossible tale) *but* the 3-book box set is fun if you can suspend reality for a while & just go with it. I listened while doing barn chores.

My previous two reviews have been pretty hard on the narrators - speaking from experience in the job. I'm happy to give kudos to R.C. Bray's reading. For starters, he the rare narrator who actually speaks fast enough. Thank you Mr. Bray! Even for fabulous narrators like Stephen Fry i had to raise the playback speed for proper listening.

Next, his vocal flexibility - I believe it's quite difficult for a resonant bass voice to do kids and women without resorting to falsetto caricatures. Bray did as good a job as I've heard.

Lastly, accents. Bravo! He deftly voiced Italian (adults & children, male & female, words and accented English), Australian, American (including regional variations) and German (words and accented English) among major characters in each others presence, each persona consistent. Props to you, Mr. Bray, and also to the editing that allowed your performance to shine.

Good read. Wanted more.

I really enjoyed this book and was glad there were more books as part of what now has turned into a bit of a series. I can’t wait to delve into the next one!

Mixed bag

If you accept the premise of how the box series begin then should probably accept the rest of the books in there entirety. Based on that I enjoyed the first two books in the set. Unfortunately by the time the third book gets going it would seem that any novel thoughts have run out and the book goes off the rails. As a result it goes from fiction to absurd and literally goes nuclear and I did battle to let the reader finish. Whilst the hero may have been given the gift of super intelligence, in terms of lateral thinking he is dangerously lacking. If I was to trust anyone to save the world I would rather phone James or Chuck and lose his number. Based purely on the third book I wont be downloading any other books in the series.

Doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up.

Sci-fi? Mystery? Drama? Military? Love story? World Traveler? Who knows? This book tried very hard to be everything to everyone and, in doing so, turned into a slog. Each night, as I lay in bed and said, "Alexa, read my book", I nestled in to enjoy...zzzzzz. Oh, did I drop off there? Yep, over and over. It just didn't captivate. There was plenty of action, but it just wasn't believable. Entirely too many coincidences and too many false starts. Skip this next sentence to avoid a spoiler! What's with the mental powers that at first manifest themselves as telekinesis and yet, it is ultimately the weakest and least used power? In short, everyone dies, except the main characters. Everyone has a normal life, except the main characters. Everyone can sit down and eat a family meal, except the main characters. Just a bit to contrived and needy for my taste.
