Resumen del Editor

A Mythical Paradox

When a giant fox terrorises the city of Thebes, a skeptical wanderer decides to help out so that the Regent can pay for his adventures in gold. But will he manage to catch the uncatchable beast, when the only man who knows anything is a grumpy old man who transforms people that bother him, when the Oracle tells of his involvement - despite Tryx not believing in such things - and when the dead bodies keep piling up with every passing day?

This story is based on the myth of the Teumessian Fox and the Laelaps Dog.

Excellent Expansion on this Greek Tale

Frivolous Fox Diligent Dog was written by George Saoulidis. The audiobook is narrated by Harper Q. Landis. The author has done an amazing job of expanding upon the Greek mythology of Laelaps and the Teumessian Fox. This is a tale of a paradox that appears in Greek mythology, for Laelaps was a hound destined to catch whatever it chased, whilst the Teumessian Fox was destined to never be caught. The story centers around Thebes and a man named Tryx not believing in any of these myths or The Oracle and her readings. He takes the task to catch the fox. This short story holds the listener's attention very well.

The narration by Ms. Landis is flawless in this performance. She gives each character a unique voice and brings them to life. This is the first performance from this narrator that I have heard but it will not be the last. The production value of this audiobook from Mythography Studios was of this highest quality. The entire performance was crisp and clear. This was a flawless production. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Amazing tale with superb narration

I get picky with audio books because the narrator has to really deliver to get me into a story. Harper Q. Landis gets you sucked into this story right away. With her cadence and flair, I was hooked! Great, short story!

Short Story, Short but sweet

Thing about short stories are they never overstay their welcome, i’m so used to reading super long fantasy novels that sometimes i just need a break and recharge so i can go back to those books i enjoy so much. This short story gave me that and honestly i wish it was longer!

Frivolous Fox Diligent Dog

Greek mythology shared with a new generation. This short story is based on the old myth of the fox who can’t be caught and the dog who always catches his quarry. It is quite the paradox.

George Saoulidis did a great job presenting the tale in an interesting way, and Harper Q. Landis put on the finishing touches with a flawless narration.

AWESOME READ!

I absolutely loved it! The narration is superb and gives the story that extra flair! The author did an amazing job with the characters. I have read so many books by this author and really love his writing style, but I think his fairytale remakes are the best! I look forward to reading more books from this author. A new take on an old Greek myth

When I was younger, I enjoyed reading about Greek myths. This story details a myth I actually hadn't heard about before, one between an uncatchable fox and a dog whose quarry cannot escape it.

The writer fleshes out the myth quite well, and writes eloquently without getting carried away and overdoing things. One other highlight for me is the narrator, who gives a great, natural reading.

Definitely worth a listen!

VERY COOL, FASCINATING!

Very Cool!

I was completely unfamiliar with the story of Laelaps and the Teumessian Fox - I am also unfamiliar with much of Greek theology as a whole, and loved getting a nice dose of it with this entertaining story.

I think the author did an amazing job, it's well written and a captivating story. Really enjoyed it!!
Narration was also amazing, I really enjoyed this short but sweet dip into Greek mythology, and I'd love to hear more.

Unstoppable force immovable object

Teumessian Fox and the Laelaps Dog is a myth based on the paradoxical idea of an unstoppable force meeting an immovable object. Two opposing forces meeting with neither one able to give way to the other. In the book it is a dog that always get's it's prey vs an fox that cannot be caught. This book is an expanded tale based on the myth.

Set in Thebes it follows the story of a Tryx, as they reluctantly take on the task of catching the fox. He does not believe the myth of the 'uncatchable fox' and is out to prove it can be taught. The book seems almost to be as much about getting Tryx to take on the task as it is about actually undertaking the task. Once Tryx takes on the task he decides to go get the unbeatable dog, despite warnings from the Oracle of Delphi.

For a short story I found that it took a little bit long (more than 1/3rd way through) to get to Tryx taking on the task, and the book actually getting going. Even then it takes a while after that before Tryx even get's on the case.

But overall, its a good retelling. A bit slow to get going, but once it is going it's very enjoyable.

Narration by Harper Q. Landis is very good. She does voices, emotions, action, character throughout. The entire narration is a little quicker paced than most, but this is not an issue at all. Overall very enjoyable narration.

Interesting tale

This is the first book I’ve read/listened to by this author and I would listen to another.
A couple spots were awkward since there was an old world feel to the story and then occasionally we hear a “hey man”, but for the most part, this was like any mythological tale.

This is the first book I’ve listened to by this narrator ( Harper Q Landis ). Her narration style made it obvious I was being read to but I feel a rewritten myth deserves this style hif a tad more polished). I like to listen to another she’s done.

There are no explicit sex scenes. It was rated V, L on Audiobook Boom but I don’t recall anything. And it’s rated teens on audible.

Too long (strangely enough)

This is of course a short story and normally I feel 1 hour is indeed quite short. However, with this story I felt like everything went in slow motion. It's written like a myth or a fairytale, and that often means the characters are cardboard-flat, since they're usually meant to be archetypes and these kind of stories aren't meant as character studies. So in that sense, the author succeeded very well in writing an actual myth or fairytale.
However, it also makes for a dull read if there isn't a lot going on story-wise and if it takes too long to get to the (symbolic or archetypical) point. Which imho it did.

But who knows, maybe other readers will dig it.
Overall I like this author a lot and will keep reading/listening to his stories.
