Resumen del Editor

Not your typical war story. Football Flyboy examines the shaping of a good man, his family, and society under the wing of the messy cleanup as WWII winds down. If you like honest, relatable, no-nonsense people who teach you the threads of building upon relationships while making you laugh and cry, this is a story you'll enjoy!

Buster, the football flyboy, was part of the Greatest Generation - a generation that was woven with courage and commitment; an era that wasn't filled with instant gratification or instant anything for that matter. Human relationships were held tightly with a determination not to give up.

Old letters seeded Football Flyboy, letters that are a one-sided conversation of a man who lived for someone more important than himself. The struggles of war and his constant change of location kept him from receiving mail regularly, causing frustration and loneliness.

Each letter has been unedited with grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors preserved to demonstrate the letters' authenticity.

You will meet members of the author's family - in particular, her aunt Ruby. Each chapter opens with "one of the letters" and closes with Aunt Ruby's poems - highlighting the point of the chapter or just providing the listener with a smile or a tear.

Meet Bill "Buster" Cannon, the football flyboy, a good man with a good life who made a difference.

Down to earth Love Story.

Loved the story ,learning about each and everyone in Lisa's family, what a Great man her father was.
I enjoyed all of Ruby Lee's poems , heartwarming and darn funny. The narraraters were both brilliant, they made the book come to life.

The Way We Were

Through the correspondence of a post-World War II pilot, “Football Flyboy” reconstructs the life of (what I hope the author won’t be offended by me calling) an ordinary man. The author found letters written by her father to her mother while he was stationed at various Asian posts immediately following the end of World War II and has used them as an outline, if you will, to reconstruct his life. It is an interesting effect and coupled with information gleaned from family interviews and first hand knowledge she tells the tale of his life.

Again, this is not a football hero or Army Air Corps Ace; Bill “Buster” Cannon was an everyday kind of guy but I think that’s what makes this work. Sometimes it is the everyday people who are the most interesting.

THEY DON'T MAKE EM' LIKE THAT ANYMORE....

What a gem. I'm so happy to have come across this story! I thoroughly enjoyed it. I just turned 50 and am already one of those that are ranting "God, I miss the good ole' days" and "They just don't make em' like that anymore." I truly miss the days before technology took over our lives, and I appreciate this glimpse into a life with some REAL. I was raised by a very old fashioned southern gentlemen from Alabama and a gentle loving mother from Mississippi, who taught me how to be a good person, old-school style. My parents are now gone, but their lessons will live on forever. A beautiful story with beautiful narration.

Sentimental Journey

This is the kind of story i really enjoy. Part of this comes from the way the letters exchanged between two very close people were a norm for this generation. In many ways it is sad that communications like this is now considered old fashioned. The other portion that makes this so very poignant are the comments of Lisa as the child. A child's viewpoint is a fantastic way to get a view we don't always get in what for me is a love story.

The way this was narrated was perfect. I am not certain I would be as strong in the narration of my story like Lisa. Richard always gives a fabulous narration, but he complimented Lisa's performance perfectly. The part I enjoyed the most is the way this highlights how each and everyone of us has a tremendous impact on others. This recap of love and life is done in a way that make me laugh and cry as well as want to hug Lisa. I really think the way this story was organized was masterful and I for one am glad Lisa found the letters and took this step.

I will keep this an listen again and again. It was worth every minute. I highly recommend to others.

Football Flyboy

Football Flyboy: First Lt. Bill Cannon, Piloting More than His Own Aircraft is a true story of the author's family and family. Lisa Reinicke discovers her father's letters to her mother during the World War Ii. Each chapter begins with one of these letters and Miss Reincke adds what was going on during that time.
I was not sure of Football Flyboy: First Lt. Bill Cannon, Piloting More than His Own Aircraft at first. The writing was a little bit different than what I am used to. Once I got used to it, I found myself laughing out loud at times and tearing up at others. The narrators of the audio version, Lisa Reinicke, Richard Rieman, added a perfect balance between the letters and the commentary.
I give Football Flyboy: First Lt. Bill Cannon, Piloting More than His Own Aircraft four stars. I thought it was a great tribute to the author's father, Bill "Buster" Cannon. I recommend it!
I received the audio version of this book from the publisher. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
