A Darkly Spicy Tale of Trickery, Trauma, and Tempt

Feast of Fools by Naomi Loud is a beautifully twisted, mythology-infused fantasy romance that pulls no punches and certainly doesn’t hold back on the spice. Narrated in a duet performance by Alyssa Avery and Nick J. Russo, the story comes alive with Alyssa’s fierce portrayal of Veil and Nick’s dangerously seductive Gemini.

Gemini is exactly what you'd expect from the god of trickery—ruthless, obsessed, and unrepentant in his pursuit. He knows what he wants, and he’s not afraid to go after it, even if his methods are more chaotic than charming. His intensity is magnetic (and yes, the breeding kink is real—sir, calm down), but there were moments where his behavior seriously crossed the line, even for a trickster god.

Veil, on the other hand, is a character you root for. She’s dealing with trauma, adapting to a new world, and trying to find her own power—all while being hunted (and let’s be real, hotly pursued) by this relentless god of a man. I loved that she didn’t just fall into his arms; she challenged him, held him accountable, and made him earn her. Her strength and refusal to be played made the story hit harder.

The grovel? Chef’s kiss. Gemini’s journey from arrogant to humbled was satisfying and honestly had me ready to forgive him, too.

Why 4 stars? Some of Gemini’s behavior, even with his nature, felt too cruel at times—and while the redemption arc was satisfying, parts of it pushed the boundaries of what felt romantic. But overall, Feast of Fools is a sinfully addictive listen that fans of dark romance, mythology, and morally gray characters you will devour.

Feast of Fools is book #2 in the Perverse City series. It's not often I enjoy a second book more than the first, but here we are. This story is so unique and captivating (aka binged it). Gemini and Veil are brought together under very dark circumstances. She's a thief, he's the heir of trickery. When his powers don't work on her, he becomes suspicious of who she really is. The author is so descriptive in her storytelling that you are immersed in the darkness as well as the opulence. This is a spicy slow-burn romantasy with morally grey main characters. I am loving this series!!!

The narration is magnificent! Nick J. Russo and Alyssa Avery nailed their performance. I can only imagine that voicing such conceited, eccentric, and ethically complex characters would be as thrilling as it is disturbing, lol. Absolutely loved these two! 5/5 beguiling stars!!

THE perfect narrators for this book

Holy shirt balls. I could not have picked a better duo for this duet narration. I loved them so much that I had to drop the speed down to 1.25x so I could savor every moment of them. This was the best way to relive the love I have for Gemini and Veil. Alyssa Avery and Nick J Russo captured the essence of these characters so well. The chemistry was top tier and I could not get enough. Naomi and Bluenose are the gods danged realest for this ALC. Run, don’t walk.

After ADM, I was counting down the days until I could dive into the city of Pravitia again. I didn’t think I would ever get enough. I needed to know everything about Gemini ASAP. Fast forward a bit and I find out that Gemini is going to Spike coded. Naturally, I start foaming at the mouth.

But THENNNN. Naomi blesses their pätrèon with a sneak peak of a certain sketch and the scream that I scrumpt were heard across the lands. By this point, I know I’m done for and in love with yet another set of fictional characters.

My expectations were set VERY high for this book. And to no one’s shock or surprise, Naomi delivered. I read this book front to back without stopping for air & then did a reread via audio and was blown away.

Gemini and Veil are so dang captivating. I ate up every detail about them. I’m such a sucker for all things Gemini. Don’t get me wrong, he is so fully unhinged, but I still found myself swooning for him every step of the way. Despite being the servant of trickery, he was always so genuine to his true self.

Veil on the other hand had to work so hard to figure out who her true self was. I adored watching her come into and embrace her power and give into her desires. Their chemistry was a journey filled with hot as sin tension and y’all already KNOW that Naomi throws down in the spice department.

Everything about this book delivered.

Gemini is everything!

The way I’m so obsessed with Naomi’s writing and this world she created in these books! Ugh I can’t get enough! Gemini & Veil were so fun to read about! Gemini especially was so fun and as the servant of the God of trickery I wouldn’t expect less of him. He was everything!

I’m dying to know more about the rest of the characters & world. I cannot wait to see what else Naomi has in store!

I did the audiobook and it was done in duet style. The voices were so perfect for these 2 characters! They fit their personalities to the T! Can’t get over it!

Naomi has a way of writing that makes you feel like you're in the room with her characters. I loved Feast of Fools when I read the physical book, but this audio is too tier!

I have said this once, and I will continue to shout it from the rooftops: WE STAN A SUPPORTIVE KING! Gemini Foley is THAT king. There's just something about a man being turned on by his woman reaching her full potential! Yes, King! Gemini owns my whole heart.

And Veil. Yes, yes, yes, yes. You better get your man! I'm not going to say too much because I am not going to be the one to spoil anything. Just yes. Yesses across the board!
