A Darkly Spicy Tale of Trickery, Trauma, and Tempt

Feast of Fools by Naomi Loud is a beautifully twisted, mythology-infused fantasy romance that pulls no punches and certainly doesn’t hold back on the spice. Narrated in a duet performance by Alyssa Avery and Nick J. Russo, the story comes alive with Alyssa’s fierce portrayal of Veil and Nick’s dangerously seductive Gemini.

Gemini is exactly what you'd expect from the god of trickery—ruthless, obsessed, and unrepentant in his pursuit. He knows what he wants, and he’s not afraid to go after it, even if his methods are more chaotic than charming. His intensity is magnetic (and yes, the breeding kink is real—sir, calm down), but there were moments where his behavior seriously crossed the line, even for a trickster god.

Veil, on the other hand, is a character you root for. She’s dealing with trauma, adapting to a new world, and trying to find her own power—all while being hunted (and let’s be real, hotly pursued) by this relentless god of a man. I loved that she didn’t just fall into his arms; she challenged him, held him accountable, and made him earn her. Her strength and refusal to be played made the story hit harder.

The grovel? Chef’s kiss. Gemini’s journey from arrogant to humbled was satisfying and honestly had me ready to forgive him, too.

Why 4 stars? Some of Gemini’s behavior, even with his nature, felt too cruel at times—and while the redemption arc was satisfying, parts of it pushed the boundaries of what felt romantic. But overall, Feast of Fools is a sinfully addictive listen that fans of dark romance, mythology, and morally gray characters you will devour.

Feast of Fools is book #2 in the Perverse City series. It's not often I enjoy a second book more than the first, but here we are. This story is so unique and captivating (aka binged it). Gemini and Veil are brought together under very dark circumstances. She's a thief, he's the heir of trickery. When his powers don't work on her, he becomes suspicious of who she really is. The author is so descriptive in her storytelling that you are immersed in the darkness as well as the opulence. This is a spicy slow-burn romantasy with morally grey main characters. I am loving this series!!!

The narration is magnificent! Nick J. Russo and Alyssa Avery nailed their performance. I can only imagine that voicing such conceited, eccentric, and ethically complex characters would be as thrilling as it is disturbing, lol. Absolutely loved these two! 5/5 beguiling stars!!

Gemini is everything!

The way I’m so obsessed with Naomi’s writing and this world she created in these books! Ugh I can’t get enough! Gemini & Veil were so fun to read about! Gemini especially was so fun and as the servant of the God of trickery I wouldn’t expect less of him. He was everything!

I’m dying to know more about the rest of the characters & world. I cannot wait to see what else Naomi has in store!

I did the audiobook and it was done in duet style. The voices were so perfect for these 2 characters! They fit their personalities to the T! Can’t get over it!

THE perfect narrators for this book

Holy shirt balls. I could not have picked a better duo for this duet narration. I loved them so much that I had to drop the speed down to 1.25x so I could savor every moment of them. This was the best way to relive the love I have for Gemini and Veil. Alyssa Avery and Nick J Russo captured the essence of these characters so well. The chemistry was top tier and I could not get enough. Naomi and Bluenose are the gods danged realest for this ALC. Run, don’t walk.

After ADM, I was counting down the days until I could dive into the city of Pravitia again. I didn’t think I would ever get enough. I needed to know everything about Gemini ASAP. Fast forward a bit and I find out that Gemini is going to Spike coded. Naturally, I start foaming at the mouth.

But THENNNN. Naomi blesses their pätrèon with a sneak peak of a certain sketch and the scream that I scrumpt were heard across the lands. By this point, I know I’m done for and in love with yet another set of fictional characters.

My expectations were set VERY high for this book. And to no one’s shock or surprise, Naomi delivered. I read this book front to back without stopping for air & then did a reread via audio and was blown away.

Gemini and Veil are so dang captivating. I ate up every detail about them. I’m such a sucker for all things Gemini. Don’t get me wrong, he is so fully unhinged, but I still found myself swooning for him every step of the way. Despite being the servant of trickery, he was always so genuine to his true self.

Veil on the other hand had to work so hard to figure out who her true self was. I adored watching her come into and embrace her power and give into her desires. Their chemistry was a journey filled with hot as sin tension and y’all already KNOW that Naomi throws down in the spice department.

Everything about this book delivered.

Naomi has a way of writing that makes you feel like you're in the room with her characters. I loved Feast of Fools when I read the physical book, but this audio is too tier!

I have said this once, and I will continue to shout it from the rooftops: WE STAN A SUPPORTIVE KING! Gemini Foley is THAT king. There's just something about a man being turned on by his woman reaching her full potential! Yes, King! Gemini owns my whole heart.

And Veil. Yes, yes, yes, yes. You better get your man! I'm not going to say too much because I am not going to be the one to spoil anything. Just yes. Yesses across the board!

An Amazing Continuation

I was FERAL for A Dance Macabre. But Feast Of Fools outdid ADM. I didn't think that Naomi could outdo herself but dang! She really went all the way with this book and these characters!! I absolutely CANNOT wait for the next in the series!

Sass and Sensuality

This has been the most interesting book I’ve ever had the privilege of reading/listening to especially with it being my first gothic paranormal dark romance. There were many times throughout this story I was left feeling
flabbergasted and at a loss for words. The way the MMC, Gemini, conducts himself is loud and proud. He is the servant of trickery and boy is he the jester of all tricks. Gemini is also intelligent, cunning, and full of dangerous arousal. Then there’s the FMC, Veil, a beautiful young woman that has intrigue written all over her and known as the servant of thievery. The way this woman grows into her true self is nothing short of spectacular! I love how cut throat she became and was able to turn the tables on Gemini. For the love of all gods, the tension and slow burn was exquisite! When the spice hit, man it was down right explosive. Just Wow!

For the audiobook, Alyssa Avery and Nick J Russo executed this narration with a perfect blend of sass and sensuality! I was hooked on their every word from start to finish. I look forward to hearing more books from these two! Well done!

Was not expecting that

Wow, what can I say?!?! This book had me lost and confused at first. And honestly I was not a fan of the main male character at first but he grew on me haha. And the man the narrated his voice fit perfect for the crazy type!!

The main female definitely went through it ti become who she was. But man when she did, she flew!!

The tension was thick but once it was started, there was no stopping it! He knew it was only a matter of time until she claim their bond, and boy was he ever right! She claimed it in the most public way possible haha!!

Yes, my beloved

Gemini Foley, the servant of trickery, you sir I am absolutely obsessed with you.

I enjoyed the first one, but this one I’m obsessed with. This one just as chaotic as the first but enjoyed these characters much more.

Veil, for someone who escaped the Feast of Fools, and know nothing of the rulers or their ways, she is a contender. She definitely finds ways to put Gemini in his place and forces him to learn patience and to learn how to apologize and realize what he has.

Those two together are a contender.

I read this as an audio and absolutely adore the narrators chosen for these characters. Nick Russo was the perfect fit for Gemini. Captured Gemini’s personality and emotions perfectly. Alyssa Avery also did Veil justice and made her a fierce partner even though she is the under dog.

Unhinged Dark Fantasy

This is Book 2 in the Perverse City Series, Performed in duet by Alyssa Avery & Nick J. Russo, and this time it follows Gemini Foley and Veil. I thought Book 1 was dark but this was darker. I love Gemini, you have to remember this is a dark romance, it's crazy and out there. Its not called the Perverse City for fun, although it is fun, it is unhinged and so is Gemini. Check your triggers before you read and you'll find a dark fantasy romance that is crazy and chaotic and unique. You should read book 1 before reading this book, its not the same couple but they are in the same world and were mentioned in book 1. This is morally black and spicy. Alyssa[@alyssaaverynarrates] and Nick [@nickj.russo] were so great with their narration, I adore how Gemini was narrated, so flippant about his craziness. I really hope we have more of this series, I can't wait to see what craziness Naomi comes up with next.
