Thirteen years ago, I made a terrible mistake.

One I'll never repeat again.

When I first met Reid, I failed to see the signs that were right in front of me. He asked me to do one thing–take him away and keep him safe.

I turned my back on him.

Now I have to live with the guilt and shame of knowing I let him down. He can't forgive me, and that's okay.

Because I'll never forgive myself.

When Reid's family comes to take him away, I have a chance to redeem myself. I can keep him safe. But the more I watch him, the more I fall for the man who doesn't see his self-worth.

Trouble is, can either of us forget the past in favour of the future? Or did my mistake all those years ago cost me any chance with the man of my dreams?

Either way, I'm not giving up until I find out.

Evan is a heartfelt hurt/comfort, M/M shifter x human romance. The second in the Wild Edges series, these books are best enjoyed in order. Each story follows a new couple, and always ends in a HEA.

Overall a good story. I’ve read several books in these related series and have enjoyed them. I’ve mostly read them on KU but needed to get some things done around the house the day I started Evan, so I decided to buy the audiobook so I could listen while I cleaned.

This isn’t a narrator I’m overly familiar with but he was good. I don’t love when there’s a single narrator but he did a nice job differentiating between multiple male characters. If there’s one criticism it’s that he made Reid sound pretty whiny at times. Maybe that’s part of the reason why Reid’s character wore thin with me about halfway through the book. Maybe earlier. Yes you have trauma but it was the same thing over and over and over. It got tedious and felt like lazy storytelling.

Meanwhile Evan was better but there was a little of the same with him, too, just not as whiny.

It was interesting reading (hearing) some of the scenes from the first book played out from a different perspective. I did enjoy that.

Definitely worth reading, and I’m looking forward to the next. The backstory was interesting but I wish there had been a little care put into how Reid dealt with his childhood instead of taking one trauma response and repeating it 15 times.

Reid got a little annoying.

4.5 rounded up! The last quarter of the book was great, but it took a while for the MCs to get their act together lol I’m REALLY excited for the next book…that epilogue has my interest piqued!

Pretty enjoyable read!

DNF'd chapter 11. This book rehashes what happened in the previous installment and the change in POVs was not enough to make it fresh to me.

disappointing rehash of previous book
