A young witch must pass a coming-of-age quest or risk losing her magic forever in this enchanting fantasy -- perfect for fans of Kiki's Delivery Service and Aru Shah and the End of Time.

Sometimes all you need is a pinch of magic...

Eva Evergreen is determined to earn the rank of Novice Witch before her thirteenth birthday. If she doesn't, she'll lose her magic forever. For most young witches and wizards, it's a simple enough test:

One: Help your town, do good all around.
Two: Live there for one moon, don't leave too soon.
Three: Fly home by broomstick, the easiest of tricks.

The only problem? Eva only has a pinch of magic. She summons heads of cabbage instead of flowers and gets a sunburn instead of calling down rain. And to add insult to injury, whenever she overuses her magic, she falls asleep.

When she lands in the tranquil coastal town of Auteri, the residents expect a powerful witch, not a semi-magical girl. So Eva comes up with a plan: set up a magical repair shop to aid Auteri and prove she's worthy. She may have more blood than magic, but her "semi-magical fixes" repair the lives of the townspeople in ways they never could have imagined. Only, Eva's bit of magic may not be enough when the biggest magical storm in history threatens the town she's grown to love. Eva must conjure up all of the magic, bravery, and cleverness she can muster or Auteri and her dreams of becoming a witch will wash away with the storm.

Cute story. I suppose it’s for younger kids, but I found it a good listen (50+ male)

Kiki's Delivery Service meets Harry Potter in this magical debut novel for young readers.

I imagine the folks who grew up on a diet of Harry Potter probably have young readers tearing around their home now. This is one of the books you should be buying for them.

My kids really enjoyed this book.
Fun story about a character that is not the best at everything but try’s very hard and struggles with self doubt and limitations to achieve way more than people expect from her.

Great young kids book

I loved this story and the way it drew cultural influences from Julie Abe’s Japanese background, from the hints of Ghibli to the setting of Okayama. The MC is steadfast and enthusiastic, the friendships are wholesome and pure, I greatly enjoyed this first book and can’t wait to catch up with Eva again in the sequel.

A more spirited Kiki!

it's obviously inspired by Kiki, but WOW it has its own world, story arc and characters. coming of age magic that is great for all ages. HIGHLY recommend this book!

what a fantastic Kiki style story!

It feels like it was written by a child and the story is boring and pointless. It’s just so boring. There is no adventure and all the problems get solved by “believing in yourself” which is just so overused. And every chapter she overusing the description “the tips of her/his ears turned pink” like Jesus Christ you can’t think of a different way to describe blushing. I would not recommend. I think even my ten year old would have been bored.

Just not good
