deep, subtle, well done

a deep feeling, history spanning exploration of what it means to be human, and what makes life matter.

Who is this woman?

I’m very disappointed in this book. It’s a great story idea but the woman’s character is one dimensional. Her life is one dimensional. This is how she chooses to spend eternity just getting married and having children over and over? Has she done nothing else with her eternal life? Too bad great initial idea though.

More romance than science fiction

My favourite novel genres are sci-fi and historical mysteries, and this book appeared to have elements of both. While that was definitely true, the story line the author focuses on the most is the love story between Rachel and the one other character cursed with immortality. The plot line I was most interested in was about Rachel's present day family and whether or not they would uncover her secret and what would happen if they did. Unfortunatly, that was not the emphasis of the book. There were certainly some interesting moments and some good historical detail, as well as some insightful reflections on how immortality would change one's outlook. Overall though, just not the story for me.

This is one of the most beautiful and meaningful pieces of literature I've ever read.

Engrossing Listen

Great story, wonderfully performed, engaging from beginning to end. With a little more involvement between the two main characters with a little more detail of how each fit themselves into various historical eras, this could have been a great trilogy.

This is a book that will stay with you for a long time. A great Jewish novel and a story about what is important in life.

Absolutely Brilliant!

I purchased this audiobook on a whim, as a 'Dailly Deal'. Those often seem to be hit or miss, usually a miss. But not this one! The story itself is fascinating; focusing on the story of an Israeli woman, whom has inadvertently managed to become immortal. It deals with the many losses in her very long life, and questions her sanity in dealing with said immortality.

So, a very fascinating subject, helped by an outstanding narrative performance. The narration alone could easily carry this audiobook.

I highly suggest listening to this!
