This travelogue sneaks up on you, takes you quietly, by surprise, but in the end, owns you.

This is probably the sixth book by Paul Theroux that I have read or listened to. It shares almost no resemblance with the others. His travels from Cairo to Cape Town had me on the edge of my seat, but his tendency to look down his nose at everyone as he traveled from Massachusetts to the southern tip of South America was offensive. There was none of either phenomenon in this book. About 3/4 the way in I adjusted, and it became a treasure.
