In a world where magic users craft monsters to gain supernatural abilities, the monsters are fighting back.
After devouring countless humans, they can now shapeshift into people. They live among the human realms, waiting for their moment to strike.
Prince Gray, heir to the throne, has discovered these shapeshifters. Stopping this hidden force will require alliances with creatures beyond the edge of civilization: a secluded tribe of beastkin women.
The all-female tribe exists on the edge between human and animal. They are powerful, but they are nothing compared to the threat of the shapeshifters. They need someone to protect them, someone who can unlock their potential, someone who has the ability to transform them into so much more. Someone like Gray: a man with the ability to bond to the beastkin. In exchange for protection, he'll receive power.
Together with these alluring non-humans, Gray seeks the truth behind the monsters and the origin of the strange powers he wields.

I'm generally really into DK's books or am just out. This is the first I've been a little ehhhh on. I'll finish it and depending on if my guess from below happens, I'll continue the story onto the next book.
VA's did an amazing job. Found both of them very easy to listen to. Haven't heard these two before but they're 🤌

Holy hell, Feather is a ridiculous part of this story..
I'm 21 chapters into this and I know jack about this chick called feather except that she's dead and MC was madly in love with her. I think she was a farm girl.. maybe? He's a prince... suuuurrreeee buddy. Somehow this godly/beautiful/perfect/GOAT girl just stumbles into his life then dies. Sounds like authorian magic to me! Every time she comes up, I'm audibly growning. She basically serves as the morally skewed compass that the MC follows and ffs, it's psychologically grating. I've never been so annoyed with a dead character who's not had a single word of dialog. Rather than building character develop with her, I'm so glad she died... which is horrible. Whether that's my burden to bare or this stories poorly driven character arc, IDK. Also, I'm calling it now... Feather was bad news and had to die to save the MC. *fingers crossed*
-Update-
Wow.. it's so obvious... the cover. Feather... Falcon.. dammit! But, the story has gotten substantially better. Now that MC isn't whining every 5 mins about Feather being dead. it's surreal that I'm so happy she's alive simply because there won't be anymore bitching. Hazah!
I've Got Some Words About Feather... t(-_-)t

simple but fun story with an interesting world.
my biggest gripe with this book is the female narrator...
Steve worked his ass off for this book and deserved 5 stars.
Kat did fine most of the time, great voices, okay emotional deliverance, but during the spicy scenes she was so stilted and awkward that every single time it felt like the characters were being forced to participate against their will... ruined them completely for me unfortunately :(
meh
