E is for Enough!

Don’t get me wrong, I love this series and every single book I’ve read so far has been great, but I didn’t really pay attention to this one.

I’ve read almost all of the books (out of sequence) and at this point I am just reading them to plug in the holes rather than to really enjoy the story! Like checking them off a list.

I’ve said before that the books have a lot of filler: “Then I went here and I did that and I thought this. Then I saw that and went over there and decided this. Then when I was done with that, I decided to go over there do more of the other thing”. That’s not a criticism; I like the writing so much that I could honestly read a whole volume of filler!! but still, overall I prefer to follow the story too.

I’ve got F G H and O to go and I am all caught up, but I need a break. W is on pre-order and I’ll read it when it comes out, but I’ll save the remaining 4 for next year.

Have to read them all! A good one.

Another good one in the series. Her latter ones are better with more twists and turns, but the beginning ones are also a good read. A must buy if you want to follow the story.

A host of characters intertwined and hard to figure out the guilty from the innocent.

I did bitter like some of the language, but I really enjoyed the intrigue and insights.

Kinsey and a rich, deeply flawed family

All detective series have a book where the main character encounters a rich family with skeletons in their closet. What a relief that Kinsey stays grounded throughout this one. She doesn’t get taken in and lose her head when surrounded by all their material objects—her observations remain cool headed and detailed. The rich women are a bit stereotypical but Kinsey notices the nuances of their suffering so that it feels more real. Everything is grounded in her belief in the necessity of woman’s independence. The sexist culture of the family is exposed as well as the suffering it has inflicted on its female members.

When she discovers the most painful secret of the family she doesn’t cut them any slack and continues her pursuit of justice. Her character remains so human and likable throughout.

The perspective in the rich is so interesting as well because it is so different than the billionaire and celebrity obsessed culture of today.
