Resumen del Editor

Private investigator Kinsey Millhone is back, sassy and self-reliant as ever. Visiting a small town in the Sierras, Kinsey aids a recent widow, Selma Newquist, who believes that her detective husband did not die of a heart attack, as reported, but from foul play.

Kinsey sifts through the paper trail Tom Newquist left behind, trying to discover what he was investigating before he died. Kinsey is about to call it quits when she is severely beaten in her motel room. Spurred to probe further she soon unearths clues regarding a long-unsolved murder that may or may not implicate the colleagues of Tom Newquist.

Wry and intelligent, Kinsey Millhone solves the case - and Sue Grafton delivers the goods.

"Kinsey Millhone is the epitome of the tough, independent, smart, feisty PI...entertaining and engaging." (Booklist)

excellent narration

Mary Peiffer narrates these Grafton Novels and she is perfect for the role. The parts that are witty makes me laugh out loud, Mary is able to really make the thoughts come out.

Kinsey is Her Own Worst Enemy (Again)

This is the usual Kinsey Millhone fare: an entertaining enough story with a little artificial drama manufactured by Kinsey's startling incompetence when it comes to her personal safety. These would not be novel-length stories if Kinsey were more conscientious about carrying her pistol. They would all end with, "...and then I held him at gunpoint while I called the police." She places herself (or rather, Grafton places her) in totally unnecessary danger reminiscent of a horror film where the cheerleader inevitably takes the wrong door and trips. Just dumb.

A note on the performance: the cover image says that it's read by Judy Kaye, but it's actually read by Mary Pfeiffer, just like all the others. I've always enjoyed Pfeiffer's performances, but I never noticed how hard she hits the "wh" sound (think of the Family Guy "Cool Whip" bit). I only noticed it here because of the astonishing number of occurrences of the word "white".

Love her books

These books keep you locked in until the end! I love them. I hate she didn’t get to write “Z”

Good Writing But Not A Great Story

This is a well narrated audiobook. Additionally Sue Grafton is a good writer who writes in a very description manner and does a very nice job depicting scenery. However the story itself is not great. Honestly some of the story did not make sense to me. I have been and remain a big fan of Sue Grafton, I have read every story since "A" thru "N". The waiting is good, but this is probably my least favorite story thus far. Thank You...

Another Winner From Sue Grafton

I am finding that her books get better with each new letter. I'm very sad she was not able to complete the series.

Great storyline

Mary Peiffer does a great job of staying true to the original text. My only issue, and this may just be me, is that the recording of her voice sounds very much like iPhone's Siri voice. That odd robotic twang you get when using one of those text-to-speech readers. I have not noticed it in books read by other narrators.

Aside from the text-to-speech sound, I loved the book.
