Resumen del Editor

Michael McClelland, the brilliant, determined murderer introduced in the first Alan Gregory novel, has left the Colorado State Mental Hospital - and he's coming after Alan's family. The timing couldn't be worse; like a wounded animal, Alan is in a deeply vulnerable state, facing severe doubts about his professional life, his marriage, and his own psyche. McClelland holds the most powerful weapons of all: secrets from Alan's past. Secrets Alan thought he had successfully buried years ago. Secrets not even his wife knows.

Time is running out as Alan scrambles to outwit his nemesis while confronting each of his worst nightmares. His becomes a captivating psychological journey into the events that forever change us, and the relentless drumbeat of the past.

This searing view into the doctor's heart leaves us with a haunting question: How far will someone go to protect all that they know and love?

Boy was this a good one!

I really enjoy Stephen White books and am so happy Audio has decided to add his books. While each book is a great read on its own, his books are a series so I recommend that you try to read them in order to follow along with the side stories about the main characters.
Do not start this one at bedtime unless you plan on staying up for a good listen. There are lots of twists and turns to keep you guessing what will happen next.

Read in a weekend

I don't know why, but I couldn't stop listening to DRY ICE. it's something in the character of Alan Gregory - his vulnerability, his openness, his thought processes which makes him not only approachable but also someone I care about. The story is really good and Dick Hill does an excellent job (he's actually come to embody the characters in the series for me). Gregory's self-deprecating descriptions of events are both humorous and intense. The events in this book take place before those in White's novels I'd read previously, and I was glad to have the background. Stephen White is worth reading especially the books with Alan Gregory.

Superb and superbly done

Audiobooks are a different more complex dance between author and editor, and then finally the voiceover actor. This system, with excellent writer and editor matched equally to superbly voiced Hill can be summed most desirable because all three levels dance nicely on the media they are confined by. The book is superb. Editing as well and acting voice top notch.
Goes along with the other Stephen White dr Alan Gregory mysteries quite well.
Of course - is addictive.
As planned by author and editor and executed by voiceover.

Poor Narration

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator. Every character is portrayed in a "whiney" tone. Hill uses the same voices for the other books he has narrated. All terrible, as well.

If you’ve listened to books by Stephen White before, how does this one compare?

Have read many of White's books, this was the first on Audible.

Dick Hill? hmmmm, not so much

The book itself is reasonably good but I had a bad time with a Dennis Farina knock-off reading a book about a good-looking, outdoorsy Colorado guy. If there was a way to define it w/in Audible.com, I would request to NEVER view any books read by Dick Hill. Apologies to Stephen White.
