Prequel to the Fae Prison Academy series

Audio is loud and clear and with some little voice-alterations to follow along with the dialogues as well. At first I thought I didn’t like the narrator but with my curiosity getting the better of me and listening to the samples of the other books (narrated by the same person), it’s clear that the narrator just chose a voice that I found a bit less enjoyable than her other work because the other books are different but then again, I do believe that those are of a different main character as well so with that in mind, I listened to this one with time sped up (lovely feature of audible!) and that’s when I could enjoy the story.

To be frank, the MC is selfish in her actions but this is all very understandable. This is a world where vampires rule the supernatural part of Earth. Humans are unaware of their existence because the vampires keep them hidden.

Vampires are cunning, polite when it suits them but vicious in nature. They have the Fae under their thumbs. For generations the fae are indoctrinated into believing they have no other choice and that, in order to survive, they are at the mercy of their master, if they are lucky enough to be bought by a vampire. Nocturnal Academy is where the fae are schooled, or rather, are being prepped for this life. Do remarkable and you might end up somewhere with a nice life, otherwise it can be pretty dire.

Peony has been blessed with great earth magic abilities, not many fae can access magic after being away from there homeland for generations so her remarkable magic has her set in a luxurious spot, fae-wise that is. Because still, doing something else than ordered can get you punished in cruel ways or killed so she does what she’s told and it’s every fae for themselves.

But then a rather immoral request for a fertility/breeding plant is made which would mean no choice for the fae in whether getting knocked up or by whom, so not moral at all, just vampires wanting to breed more slaves like cattle. Constricted by the cruel laws she has little choice but to make the plant, only to have it stolen. In this world, that makes it her fault and she gets punished for it.

I think this is a good sort of “coming to age” story but instead of age it is getting a broader worldview of how things really are, especially beyond her little place in this whole system and what really matters.

I have only listened to the sample of book 1 but this story feels like a nice introduction into the Fae Prison Academy. Also, as far as I can tell, this is a spin-off of the Nocturnal Academy, which I didn’t have a chance to read yet but it doesn’t feel like I missed anything, just mentioning it for those that like the chronological reading order, like myself normally but like I said, I don’t mind not having read that series yet, it did make me curious so I will read them but not to fill in gaps or anything. This spin-off feels like it can be read without the Nocturnal Academy books.

this is an interesting story
I had a hard time getting into the story while listening to it, but it was just me because of the narrator, the concept is great and I look forward to reading about it

I liked this book alot, the story itself was entertaining and kept my attention!

I was not completely sold on the narrator, something didn't feel right about her voice for me!

Great introduction to series

Great way of tying the series and cast together. If you love vampires and fairies, then you will love this fast paced series.

The lesson

I love how she learns to stand up for herself. And when told about the wrong she has done she don't deny it. But she did as her mother had told her to when she was young. And as she got older her mother was in her head putting her down. But the best lesson learned was that she is stronger and can make the right decision to help other and not just herself.

Great introduction to the series!

Excellent Prequel to the Fae Prison Academy Series. This book is told in Peony’s POV. I would suggest listening to Nocturnal Prison Academy series first. This is a great story to understand why Peony is the way she is. There is so much more to her than what meets the eye.

Narration was not my favorite. I think I would have enjoyed the story even more if the voice had not been so annoying and monotonous.

Peony is a complicated character. I disliked her at first but she learned from her mistakes and admitted to her wrongdoings. It was irritating to say the least about Peony’s mother being in her head putting her down about everything she did.

I liked how things wrapped up nicely and how Peony was able to shut down her mom’s negative voice. She made better choices to benefit not only herself but others as well. Very interesting start to the Fae Prison Academy Series!

I love the fact this story is based off a fae prison academy. I truly enjoyed the story more then anything. the narrated made me keep wanting to listen to the story

Peony POV

Eeek!! The prequel is what I’ve been missing!! I listened to the first book of the Fae Prison Academy series and I’m glad I had the opportunity to listen to the novella. It follows Peony which is a complex character and I was never sure if she can be trusted or not. I would highly recommend that you listen to this prequel first before listening to book 1 as it gives some tidbits of info.
