The feeling of discovering that your favorite new listen is actually the start of a series is euphoric. That you can immediately hit play and re-enter a beloved new world, or love story, or era from history is a gift to the devoted listener. But how to pick just 100 of these unique and immersive listening journeys? We defined a series as having a minimum of three books, and—after some debate—we decided the titles had to be anchored in fiction. From YA to horror to historical fiction, from fresh voices to seminal tales, hours of discovery await.

I read this book when it was first published. It was a great read and it was an even better listen. John MacDonald did a nice job. Some of his voices ran together somewhat. As far as Clancy...I wanna be him when I grow up! I love his stuff. The man can tell a story and make every detail...And there are a LOT of details...Fun to roll around in.

Fun to hear one I'd read...

I am a big fan of the Jack Ryan series, so I managed to finish listening to this book. Otherwise, I’d have given up 5 minutes in. This narrator is robotic. Nothing like the performances of Scott Brick. To me, it often sounded like an actual computer narration. I had to repeat several sections as the narration made it difficult to maintain my attention at times. The story absolutely held it’s own within the series, but PLEASE get a new narrator.

Performance not so good

I have listened to a lot of books from Audible. This is by far the worst narration I have ever heard. I have read this book before I listened to it and knew the story was slow to develop, but John MacDonald had me begging for the book to end.

Horrible narrator

I work for the federal government. I enjoy the realism of these books, the subtle humor, the suspense, and the amazing characters. Seriously, read Patriot Games, Hunt for Red October, Clear and Present Danger, Sum of All Fears, Debt of Honor, Executive Order, Bear and Dragon. Excellent every time. This book takes Ryan back into government service as the national security advisor to the Durling who has succeeded Fowler after the latter’s incapacity and resignation. They face a trade crisis, a stock market meltdown, the last US/Russian ICBM, a new war with Japan, and the successful end of that war. In the end Durling promotes Ryan once again as Ryan’s character and skills bring him to the fore yet again.

Another Jack Ryan success by Tom Clancy

“We are and who we want to be. We (Americans) invented that idea,” Jack Ryan. Love me some Tom Clancy.

Jack Ryan, Clark, and Ding at their best
