Resumen del Editor

Assaulted by the bitter cold of a Montreal winter, the American-born Dr. Temperance Breman, Forensic Anthropologist for the Province of Quebec, digs for a corpse where Sister Elisabeth Nicolet, dead over a century and now a candidate for sainthood, should lie in her grave. A strange, small coffin, buried in the recesses of a decaying church, holds the first clue to the cloistered nun's fate. The puzzle surrounding Sister Elisabeth's life and death provides a welcome contrast to discoveries at a burning chalet, where scorched and twisted bodies await Tempe's professional expertise. Who were these people? What brought them to this gruesome fate? Homicide Detective Andrew Ryan, with whom Tempe has a combustive history, joins her in the arson investigation. From the fire scene they are drawn into the worlds of an enigmatic and controversial professor, a mysterious commune, and a primate colony on a Carolina island. Featuring the kind of forensic detail that only Kathy Reichs can provide - from skeletal reconstruction to insect analysis - Death du Jour takes the listener on a riveting journey from the morgue to the lab to the crime scene, from the warmth of barrier island to the frigid cold of a deadly ice storm. With this poignant and powerful work, Kathy Reichs confirms her status as a brilliant new crime-writing star.
Don't miss any of Tempe Brennan's investigations.

pretty good

At first the reader's voice drove me nuts but you'll get used to it pretty fast. It has a good storyline and it's really easy to get drawn in to the book. I'd definitely recomend purchasing this audio book.

A let down in the abridged version

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

So so...it was too choppy and hard to follow. I felt like I was missing a lot of the story

Who was your favorite character and why?

Always Tempe

What aspect of Katherine Borowitz’s performance would you have changed?

More emotion

Death du Jour

Excellent listen. Plot gets a little slow in some spots but I will listen to it again!

I'm Really Tired of Her Whining

Patricia Cornwall went down this road and now Kathy Reichs is doing the same thing. A single, intelligent, professional woman canNOT have any kind of relationship with anyone but her daughter. It's impossible for her to ask for anyone's help, so she gets into no end of trouble. And the trouble doesn't really extend the plot, it simply makes you angry at her stupidity.

Further, the plot is strected absolutely thin -- imagine if you will, one woman who lives and works in South Carolina, also has a job in Montreal and a sister in Houston. Somehow all thing places and people come together in the most bizarre fashion. I'm good at suspending disbelief, but even I was put of by this. I'm done with Kathy.

As for this abridged version (which I thank GOD I got even though I was unaware of it), the story starts out with Our Heroine digging for the skeleton of a nun who is up for beatification. There's something hinky in the bone structure, but the abridged version doesn't tell you what that is. It just ends.

terrible editing

i rarely write reviews, but this book was horribly edited for the abridged version. i felt like i had landed in the middle of the story and had missed a lot by the end. if you listen to this, get the unabridged version. this is the worst abridged version i've ever listened to. the narration isn't very good either. very disappointed.

so bad i had to write

For anyone who enjoyed the author's first Tempe Brennan story, Deja Dead, prepare yourself for a big disappointment on all fronts. First, narration: Tremendously inferior to the previous book; this narrator's Tempe has a very narrow range -- either monotone boredom or caustic bitchiness. Second, production quality: I usually stay away from abridged versions just for the sake of completeness, but can't recall noticing any glaring technical problems when listening to other abridged books. This one, however, is so poorly produced that you can actually hear the horribly executed cuts, and the difference in audio quality from one part to the next. Editing was so bad that one murder victim who is supposedly part of the "whole" picture, is only mentioned at the end of the story, leaving the listener to wonder, "WHO? How did I miss that one?" Lastly, the story was weak. But, giving the author the benefit of the doubt, perhaps the story would have seemed a bit more solid in its entirety, given the aforementioned editing problems. Somehow I don't think so.
