Resumen del Editor

On a sunny May morning in 1998 in Cortez, Colorado, three desperados in a stolen truck opened fire on the town cop, shooting him 20 times; then they blasted their way past dozens of police cars and disappeared into 10,000 square miles of the harshest wilderness terrain on the North American continent. Self-trained survivalists, the outlaws eluded the most sophisticated law enforcement technology on the planet and a pursuit force that represented more than 75 local, state, and federal police agencies with dozens of SWAT teams, U.S. Army Special Forces, and more than 500 officers from across the country.

This is the first in-depth account of this sensational case, replete with overbearing local sheriffs, Native American trackers, posses on horseback, suspicion of vigilante justice and police cover-ups, and the blunders of the nation’s most exalted crime fighters pursuing outlaws into territory in which only they could survive.

Incredible Saga, Well written and exciting

Nonfiction with the skill of a novelist. Takes you there and hooks you from the beginning. I couldnt stop listening. Covers every angle of this tragic mystery but in an enlightening, never dull manner that makes you feel like you're there. Officer Claxton died a hero, almost certainly preventing what could have been a devastating act of domestic terrorism the likes of which this country has never seen. Perfect narration. Right up there with Columbine as one of the best true-crime non-fictions Ive ever read

Really interesting

I was not familiar with this story. I found the first part compelling. Due to the unknown results the second part tended to drag but overall I really enjoyed it

A highly compelling Colorado True Crime story

detailed, well written, well performed book with an 'I cant stop listening" feel to it. Listened to it 5 times now to catch more detail. even more interesting as I travel this area of Colorado and get more familiar w the area and people as I do.

Excellent Story

This was a great listen on all accounts of a true story. What made this my favorite was that the narrative had enough detail without burdensome irrelevance to enable me along with Google Maps to follow the turn of events geographically. Performance was clearly enunciated without annoying an over-emotional tone.

Dead On Story Telling

First, the narration is great and fits perfectly into the story. The novel reads like a fiction crime story but is real. Well researched and delivered it leaves you to wonder what really was the fate of the killers, suicide or did the police seek revenge for the death of one of their officers. Well written and highly recommended.

Very interesting story

Would you listen to Dead Run again? Why?

Probably not. It was a good listen but not that good.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The narrator.

Have you listened to any of Arthur Morey’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Any additional comments?

The narrator was excellent. The story is good, but it jumped around too much for me.

My mistake - just not that interesting

I don't like the way this is delivered, I don't like that it starts at the end, one of those "if he had known" sort of things. But it's history, so it already happened. But still, I just don't like this style. So in the end I just stopped listening. I'd have to be desperate to work up the interest to start again. I am sure it is a compelling read for people who are closer to this story, but to me it's just another story about a the bad end some people I'll never need to care about came to.

Meh

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Very wordy in some parts.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Well since it's a true story, I think just the way it was told didn't capture my attention.

Would you be willing to try another one of Arthur Morey’s performances?

No, I'm not sure if he has some sort of accident or what? He also seems to always be talking in a hushed whisper.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

This book would probably make a better movie.

Any additional comments?

Narration really ruined it for me.

Modern day western meets true crime

Well written true crime in the arid west. An amazing story of an ambushed policeman and the chase to catch his killers.

Only complaint was that when the author presented his theory of what happened he did not always day how he reached his conclusions. Much of it was from police reports, etc. but some of our was not clear. Overall a great book.

A good story. The author failed in one point

While the book has well supported theory, the reference to .233 cartridges is an error.
