Great story

I liked reading about Mariah Mitchell and Eliza Macy and the addition of the character Meg. I feel like it’s about time we tell stories (fiction and non-fiction) in as truthful a manner possible. This one scored big in that area! Well done.

Island life in the 1800s

I read this with no backstory or what I was getting into! I fell into their world thinks to this lovely author and my only wish was that we could stay a bit longer in their life!

I really enjoyed this story and the characters as they survived the great fire on Nantucket.

Not what I expected

This is a very modern storyline tucked into the events of mid-1800s Nantucket. You don't get a sense of what life was really like living in that era, or really even what it was like to live through the disaster that occurs in the background. If you're a historical fiction fan, be aware that this is light on the history. The story was fine, but the characters felt a little one-note, and it was overall not what I was expecting.

Excellent historical fiction read well

Yes! I loved this. Historical fiction set on Nantucket in 1846. Socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, religion, and race, as well as duty and love and passion, all presented in a believable context. Story is compelling and it is incredibly well read by the narrator.

The totally ridiculous liberal ideas for this point in history

This is a ridiculous book don’t waste your time or money the only thing historical is the fire the rest is beyond fiction.

Not what I expected. Weak storyline punctuated with (current) social issues. Plenty of white-guilt moments.
