Brilliant story... Brilliant storyteller

I am so enjoying this series. Emily is a woman I would think I would be friends with and that makes listening all the more pleasurable.
Tasha Alexander's stories are always so well written with such good twists and turns. And Justine Eyre is an amazing storyteller... her inflections and voices are just so easy to listen to. Thank you again for coming back. Can't wait to dive into the next in series!!!

Love this series.

I enjoyed the story. The characters are addictive. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Another fun mystery

This time Emily and Colin are at his mother’s home. It seems she does not like Emily very much at all

Emily finds a murdered girl while out for a ride and the story takes off. She is still dealing with her loss and struggles.

Great one.

Another great one from both author and narrator! Filled with everything that makes a good story.

Loved it except for the ending

I struggled to finish at first as I felt Lady Emily became to whiny. But I kept going and glad I did. *****SPOILER ALERT***** I do feel the ending could of been more dramatic. perhaps Sebastian showing up and drop kicking "said person tormenting Lady Emily". Not that she needed saving, just odd to have him always popping up out of no where throughout the bookwhen she DIDN'T need any help. Then when she could of needed a random popping up he was else where. I'm all for a " lady" saving herself, but as a lady myself some help would be awesome when I'm tied up and being tortured:/ This was my 1st read of the series, so I will go and find the 1st one and see how Lady Emily came to be married to Colin and have such an acquaintance as Sebastian:)

Disapointing

The Biggest problem is the narrator. She makes lady Emily sound like a child and her male voices are pathetically artificial. I just can’t get into this book and I love Tasha Alexander’s lady Emily series. Hopefully this is the only one this narrator reads.

Sad this is the last listenable book in series.

This was an okay installation in the series. Not the strongest (thus far), but if you've read (or listened) up to this point, you're invested in the characters and want to know what's up next for Lady Emily et al. It's why I listened to this book.

Sadly, I was pretty disappointed and it only gets worse from here.

Bad news = the next book, A Crimson Warning, switches narrators AGAIN, and it's awful. Horrible. Worse yet, the narrator in book six, stays with the series from there on out. So, this book is the last listenable book in the audio book version of the series. Since the plot in this book is the weakest thus far, and a lot of the characterizations we've come to rely on are basically abandoned, you may want to save a credit and call it a day before bothering with this book. I don't recommend going beyond this one, in any case.

Overall, I've really enjoyed the series and have left favorable reviews on earlier books. Sadly, there are multiple aspects of this particular book that are frustrating and annoying. This low point really brought down my regard for the series as a whole.

Mild / vague spoilers: Emily's mother-in-law drama had me grinding my teeth, and Colin's misogyny went mostly unchecked, leaving me super depressed and angry. I like Emily because she's a badass and she's clever, fierce, and breaks all the social norms. This book found our heroine cowering and crying, and being berated and bossed around by her husband. Wtf?!? What a let down, and what a sad way to end the audiobook version of this series. I was hoping the next book would redeem things, but the narrator for Crimson Warning and in is so effing god awful, I can't tolerate listening to it.

TLDR: save a credit and a lot of time and move on now.

Disappointing

I don't think these seemed like the same characters from the previous books. The style is much more romance, less mystery. And the narrator was difficult to listen to. I didn't finish it.
