She is hunting for the truth, but who is hunting her?

Freelance journalist and single mother Hannah Weybridge is commissioned by a national newspaper to write an investigative article on the notorious red light district in Kings Cross. There she meets prostitute Princess and a police inspector in the vice squad, Tom Jordan.

When Princess later arrives on her doorstep beaten up so badly she is barely recognisable, Hannah has to make some tough decisions and is drawn ever deeper into the world of deceit and violence. Three sex workers are murdered, their deaths covered up in a media blackout, and Hannah herself is under threat. As she comes to realise that the taste for vice reaches into the higher echelons of the great and the good, Hannah realises she must do everything in her power to expose the truth...and stay alive.

I am not a fan of writers easily won. I am also a a prolific audible consumer averaging 3 to 4 books weekly. I rate this author with my two favorites, Adrian Mckinty and Stewart Neville and that’s saying something. The narration was spot on. I will be recommending this book to my many friends.

Great narration! Good story. Narration is so important with audible books. Definitely would recommend this book.

Really enjoyed this book

There are much better books than this one! It wasn’t thrilling or sitting on the edge of your seat fun!

Not worth the read…

Great Story

Good story. I can usually guess the ending, but this one tricked me. The main character vomits a lot. But still worth the listen.

First book I’ve read from the author and was surprised it kept my interest. Time is the 90’s but rather written then I don’t know and it’s setting is Britain.
The main character does throw up allot but I can get past that. She gets involved in a prostitutes woes and meets a new guy working the case who is also mysterious.
That’s pretty much the surrounding story.
It’s not the “newness” of the subject matter or a particular unique one. The reason I enjoyed it was maybe because of this and I could listen at my leisure rather at the gym on treadmill or going to sleep at night without having to rewind it to see what I missed.
It’s a solid 3+/- ⭐️ that’s easy to listen to and also enjoyable. I will probably give the writer another read to see if she’s consistent. If so I recommend it for anyone on the go who doesn’t have the time to get totally absorbed but nevertheless entertained. That to me is a ‘good’ book…not great, but definitely good.

I enjoyed the plot and the narrator but, oh boy, the main character was too often on the verge of throwing up or actually threw up!

Good story

Hannah Weybridge, single mom and freelance journalist, is called to write a piece on a young local prostitute who goes by the name of Princess. She never expected to get drawn into the young woman's story . . . a sad one, not unlike many of the girls who walk the streets, but she does, thinking that under different circumstances it could be her own daughter. Hannah and Princess make a connection, which later puts them both in danger. When Princess shows up on Hannah's doorstep, frightened for her life, Hannah wants to send her away . . . but something stops her. So she agrees to hide her, just for a few days . . . but soon it is evident why Princess is so afraid. Someone is killing young prostitutes . . . one by one . . . And some of the clients are high profile, powerful men. Who can be trusted? This is a well written, and frightening tale of life on the street for young, unfortunate women, some of whom have little to no choice in how them can support themselves. And Hannah isn't sure either who she can trust . . .

Gritty, Sad and Realistic Mystery

Although the main character, Hannah, was supposed to be a strong single mom, she came across as a jealous, vomiting nervous Nellie. I don't know many moms of a 6 month old baby would allow an unknow prostitute to move into their home. Some of the story just seemed all over the place. From prostitutes being killed (now there's a story I've heard over and over) to Hannah falling for the cop Tom (also been overdone in books). Add in corruption at various levels, violent pimps, etc. and you have this story. There really wasn't anything that stood out for me on this one.

Mixed feelings on this story

I had hoped for a bit more police action in this book but overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great narration as well.

Enjoyed this book!
