Resumen del Editor

Medicine meets horror in this thrilling escape tale about the evil men do in the name of progress.

Welcome to the Nixon Healing and Research Center, playground for the maniacal Dr. Howard Nixon, whose medical research has him dabbling in the undead and has the women of Strandville disappearing.

Desperate to find a cure for the lethal virus which turns its victims into zombies, Nixon kidnaps Miranda Penton, a security recruit with a past that won't let her go. He doesn't count on anyone coming looking for her, least of all her ex-husband, Scott.

A warning call brings Scott to Strandville, where he bands together with a team of locals determined to bring their own loved ones home. Together, they infiltrate Nixon's staff, hatching a plan that releases not only the surviving women, but the virus on those left in the hospital.

Nixon locks down the center to contain the spread, turning patients, visitors, and staff into a dangerous horde that is almost impossible to escape. Miranda and the others fight for their lives. The town of Strandville is ground zero for the zombie apocalypse and Miranda must get free because the fate of humanity lies with her unborn child.

Madman!

I received this book for free for an honest and unbiased review

So this is only my second zombie related book that I thought I would give a try. My first was Zom-B by Darren Shan which I think I loved because it was narrated by the amazing Emma Galvin!
Anyway on to this book. Killing some people to find a cure? madman!! He is truly a freak and crazy! I found the book interesting and unique and I will move on to book 2.
Narration was great! No problems with it.
Worth a credit - yes!!

Happy Reading/Listening!!!

A Chilling Take on the Zombocalypse

"Cure: Strandville Zombie" was chilling and scary right out of the gate. In a saturated genre, this was a completely new spin on zombies which I liked a lot. It's intense and at times cringe worthy. The characters were deep and well fleshed out and Nixon a monster. Scary but an excellent book by Belinda S. Frisch.

Julia Farmer's narration was fantastic. She really dug in with these characters. Her approach was that of trepidation which was edge of your seat. Her voice inflections were perfect. She made this an amazing listen and credit worthy.

Cure

Any additional comments?

Creepy, Interesting and Entertaining.

Great concept for the medical/cancer/babies part of the plot. Scary but original.

The story overall is fast paced, but there are a couple of lulls in the first half of the book. The second half of the book is nonstop action.

It took me a while to get interested in the characters. There just wasn't any connection with any of them until well into the story.

Miranda Penton is in a nightmare situation. When she disappears her ex Scott comes looking for her. The horror inside the Nixon Healing and Research Center is nothing they could have imagined. Leave it up to a megalomaniac Dr. to think he can cure cancer by way of zombies.

Julia Farmer did a good job with the narration. Her female voices were good. Pleasant voice. Smooth even pace with the narration. There was not much difference in her male and female voices, which made it difficult at times distinguishing characters.

The Story line is good

Where does Cure rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I like the story line, it's different and creative but the story moved too slowly for my tastes. I prefer faster pace and more action.

Have you listened to any of Julia Farmer’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Nicely done, very professional narration

Hospitals, Research, Zombies

Would you try another book from Belinda S. Frisch and/or Julia Farmer?

I want to say up front that zombie books are not my preferred genre to read or listen too, however the story was engaging and the audiobook narration was done very well.

This book is not young adult or teen safe due to the amount of vulgar language and adult topics/subject matter. I will say that the use of language was less then I would have suspected and the author could have gotten the same points across using non-vulgar words. Although there is some romance in the book, the author does not turn the book into something that is strictly adult in nature. Along with language there are topics involving abortion, divorce, and heavy subject matter along with gore (expected in a zombie book) that may not be suitable for younger audiences.

I have to say that I very much enjoyed the author's ability to describe the story without going into too much or too little detail. The characters stared off feeling a bit flat, however as I got more into the book I began to feel for the characters and wanted them all to get out of this situation, except for the "bad" people doing the research. The narration also helped me to enjoy the book. It was well done and voices of the many characters in the book were handled well and distinguishable. The reason I rate it a three-star for the story is more that it is not my style and I did not enjoy it as much as I would a book in my preferred genre.

Had the story not been as well written and descriptive as it was, I would not have continued to the end of the book. I will say that it is quite a ride the author took me on, again even though it is not the type of book I enjoy reading or listening too. For a zombie book that had character development and not focused only on the zombie attacking was a breath of fresh air. Some of standard zombie stereo-types are also found in this book if that is your thing.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Over all I think the author was able to close up the ending quite well and if a person did not want to read the others in the series you could stop here. There are a few items left unresolved, so for these I suspect one would need to read the others in the series.

Which scene was your favorite?

It is had to say if there was one scene in the book I can say was my favorite. There were a few nail-biting scenes nearer the end of the book where one is unsure how the characters will resolve them. So I liked the amount of tension and also the authors ability to release that rather quickly.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

If the book were made into a movie I do not think it would be able to do the story justice. I think for most Zombie tropes it is all about the blood and gore where this book actually had a story and some deep characters that would be more flat is made into a movie.

Wow… There are some real issues in this book

Wow… There are some real issues in this book. Not WITH the story, with the people! I really hope if the zombiepocalypse ever breaks out, I am with smarter people than who are in here. Because seriously… I would be so frustrated. Or kill them all for being idiots!

First of all of course, OF COURSE, someone is creating a cure for something and it all goes haywire. The problem is not the science behind it. The problem is that the scientist is a freak. He is the ultimate bad guy as he knows something is wrong but continues to do what he does for the sake of man kind. Kill a few people while experimenting? Oh well. You have to break a few eggs right?

What’s great is that this just starts as a regular story about Miranda. Seemingly benign, she gets a job in a weird town. New town, new job, new life… she does not have anyone else and is putting all her eggs (ha more eggs) in this particular zombie filled basket. Unbeknownst to her, she is about to walk into the tiger’s den! And that is just the beginning of the plot.

What I love about this is that it is the beginning of what I am expecting to be the apocalypse. It really does always start so innocently. Well, not in the case of Dr. Howard Nixon. He really is crazy. But normally it is innocent and then all hell breaks loose! In this, it is about the story behind the people and how they are dealing with these issues that crop up. And there are plenty!

But that is also a downside. When reading a zombie book I want to get to the guts and glory of it all! There were so many feels in this. It is good and I did enjoy most of the characters but while I was wanting bloodshed, there were tears. Although, giving Belinda Firsch some major credit… do not eat while reading or listening to this. There are some really gory parts! They will turn your appetite! Those parts I loved!

Julia Farmer reads this and I think she did a marvelous job. I do not normally listen to female narrators for some reason, but I think she did a great job at putting the emphasis in where needed and adding a real sense of horror when the story got horrific.

Miranda handled things quite well but may not be making the best decisions! Even still I love her for being so strong in quite abominable circumstances. The only character that really surprised me was Reed… that guy is determined. Sadly he’s also a complete ass.

Loved the ending! Cannot wait to listen to the next!

Very enjoyable

I was desperate to find another zombie audio book havering listened to Chris Philbrook's and Mark Tufo's entire available collection so far. While I enjoy some sarcastic humor in my novels and this had none it far exceeded my expectations.....worth listening to.

Unique zombie setting for story

This was a unique setting/storyline to the zombie books I've read/listened to.... standard undead bite inducing zombie virus, but the way it's introduced was a fresh and interesting storyline (think: zombie dads with uninfected moms.... zombabies?)

The writer did a fantastic job with the descriptions - beware if you have a weak stomach! I would have preferred the description of he/she/they "wiped away a clear string of snot away" about 6 or 7 times less, but thats really my only complaint.

Not the very best zombie book in my library, but it's up there, and I enjoyed the unique take along with the narrator's consistent voices.

Runs hot and cold

Female authors in this genre have a special place in my heart, they usually put a more human spin on their stories and the author delivers on that part.

This book was excellent in some areas and gets bogged down in others. Overall it ended up being just OK. I see that there is a sequel to this story and I'll probably give the series and author another try and see if she hits her stride.
