Resumen del Editor

They say democracy dies in darkness.

Earth has fallen. The Empire is no more. Old certainties are collapsing everywhere. Chaos is spreading across the stars, with war following in its wake.

Tarsus, a world too close to Earth for comfort, is far from immune.

Clarence Esperanza, a reporter on Tarsus, thought he had the story of the century. But, when he took the story to his bosses, he was unceremoniously fired. Cut off from his former friends, abandoned by his wife isolated from the world around him, he thought all he could do was stagger onto the streets and wait to die. But when an old friend offers him a job, with a new news outlet challenging the dominance of the planetary media networks, he finds himself on the front lines of a struggle for control of the planet....

...And fighting for the freedom of an entire world.

Too close to home

This was an interesting book that covered a time in the life of a reporter on a world falling toward chaos. He and his companions are forced to face the reality of a government that had overreached and totally controlled the lives of the people and the people who were willing to do anything to remain in control.

The narration of this book was outstanding.

Investigative Journalism at its Sci-Fi...nest

I came to this series for the mil-sci-fi aspect but every "side" adventure like this enthralls me. Cry Wolf is no exception and Jeffrey Kafer's dulcet tones pull me to the end of the story as soon as I start it. I'm always surprised when the end credits come up because the story and narration have sucked me into the Empire Corps universe.
Two Thumbs Up.

It’s part of a great series showing the decline of a great power

But it is a little formulaic and I would have liked more insights from the professor.
Otherwise, the book, and the whole series should be required reading for anyone seeking a position in government.

Tangent to Avalon, targeted on us

Here is another Nuttall treatise on current US politics and and world events. The title is a good one as fear mongers and charlatans cry distracting warnings and calming lies. The media is bought and sold, Police are corrupt and violent. Money can get you whatever you want. When the major power (the USA, China, Russia?) in the empire (our world) collapses, the rest of the galaxy (the countries and economies of our world) falls like dominoes. There are only a few good people out there trying to share truth, make a difference, and perhaps save some of Humanity. But these folks are hounded, arrested, beaten, financially destroyed, and even killed. Sound familiar?

This story takes place on Tarsus, and makes no mention of Stalker on Avalon. The Childe Roland is mentioned, but we still wonder where he is and if he can do anything. That seemed to be important to Stalker, but is becoming less and less so.

Everybody loves Jeffrey Kafer. I even like his reading here although he has no different voices for any of the characters. All the "Yes, Sir"s sound exactly the same from every mouth, every time, all across the galaxy. He misses points of emphasis as if he isn't scanning ahead far enough to know how the sentences end and should be read. It's a good enough book, though, while we wait to return to Avalon and the havoc of Admiral Singh.

The View from the Peanut Gallery

Cry Wolf takes a look at the media and it's difficult not to draw parallels to current happenings. Everyone has had to ask why cover this or whatever happened to that. The view from the outside is chaotic and confused. We know that politics and money has to have some influence. The view from the inside is 20/20. The news is a product. It's being sold and packaged. Just be wary about what you consume. It can make you sick or cause you to take actions that will be mistakes. The fall of the empire is allegorical and always has been in this series. This is one of the several installments that takes the gloves off and bludgeons you with it.

the information age

this is why we distrust the news organizations that control our information. and if you think the internet is balanced you're falling into Google's trap

Not quite as good as usual

Not at the usual level of quality from this author and series. Definitely would have been more interested to see what is going on with the new empire our main protagonist of the series is building than what is covered here.

Been waiting!

I have been waiting a long time for this series to come back! While I always appreciate Mr Nuttals thoughts in this series, this one was not as powerful as the refugee one.

I look forward to the next one!

I really liked how the underdog took it to the next level. The antagonist was pretty good to

Good story, but off subject...

I enjoyed the book. I was, however, disappointed that the subject was not about the Empire's Marine Corps.
