The third and final book of Constance Verity’s epic adventure in which saving the world is easy—everything that comes after is the tricky part.
The Adventurer. The Great Snurkab. The Caretaker. Constance Verity returns, having accepted and secured her place in the universe while juggling her expanded life. Until she comes up against The Caretaker’s nemesis, a foe she can’t just beat the hell out of, Connie must defeat the idea of inevitable entropy, the end of everything.
Impossible you may think, but Connie always has an angle, and this time it’s by upping her game, by stopping enough calamities, by answering every tug at her innate sense of adventure, she can build up enough power to counteract the end of the universe. The problem is, she’s still a human woman, and even she can’t keep this up for long. As she starts to fade her friends figure out a way to help: Destroy the world.
“An ethnically diverse heroine, great adventure pacing, a witty sense of humor, and some quality banter make this a delightful subversion of superhero tropes.”—Booklist (starred)

I recommend the book but want people to be aware of the sound issues before buying.
A great story that deserves a re-recording

great story but the narrator fell short

Let me explain. We (I) have come to expect a lot from narrators and a bit more from the production company since their quality has been so high. The narrators do fantastic range of voices, considering the text, the intonations, and effective phrasing adding to the quality of experience. Here, the narrator Cynthia Farrell does great on all but phrasing and it's this that I am embarrassed by my impatience and lack of compassion.
I don't know if Farrell has COPD, long term Covid, or what has happened, but there's a very audible intake of breath between very short phrases of text. Both the breath and short phrasing become very distracting very quickly and i know we should be patient and accepting of people who are different, but it just isn't possible here, at least for me.
There is more than some responsibility that should fall on the production company, who is also responsible for high expectations by putting out fantastic recordings. However, we've been let down by the intake of breath that could have been edited out or diminished in the studio, but wasn't. I would hope they would fix this to the level of their other recordings, but if they released this in this state, then it's doubtful.
So, in this one case, I'd recommend not purchasing this A. Lee Martinez audio recording unless you enjoy listening to a really good narrator who's struggling to breath and wants to hate on audio books for poor production.
The recording is distracting
