Resumen del Editor

Leaders are forged in the fires of war. Iron Age warriors Dug and Lowa captured Maidun castle and freed its slaves. But now they have conquered it, they must defend it.

A Roman invasion is coming from Gaul, but rather than uniting to protect their home, the British tribes battle each other - and see Maidun as an easy target.

Meanwhile Lowa's spies infiltrate Gaul, discovering the Romans have recruited bloodthirsty British druids, and Maidunite Ragnall finds his loyalties torn when he meets Rome's charismatic general, Julius Caesar.

War is coming. Who will pay its price?

Perfect blend of historical fiction and fantasy

I have been waiting for book two to come out on Audible because I really enjoyed book one- this book did not disappoint. The same narrator, Sean Barrett, who is such a perfect fit for this setting! I've listened to other narrative books he has done and he is becoming a favorite! There is more magic In book two and carries on with the same core characters. The author adds that the battles and Roman characters appear to be accurate according to Roman history. Gives it a fun imaginative twist to epic fantasy. I Look forward to the audible release of book three!

Great Big Badger's Balls!

I just love Dug's badger expletives!

This second installment of Angus Watson's Age of Iron trilogy picks up shortly where the first, "Age of Iron," left off. Our heroes' (and anti-heroes') lives have undergone quite a change in fortune from when we first met them at the beginning of "Age of Iron," yet danger and conflict loom as Caesar and his unbeatable Roman army get nearer and nearer, while the tribes of Britain and Eriu scheme, plot and battle among themselves to conquer Lowa's Maidun. Lowa, Dug and Spring endeavor to unite the tribes of Britain and train Maidun's warriors for coordinated battle plans to prepare for Rome's invasion, while Atlas, Carden and Chamanca do their best to hamper Caesar's advance on the continent, and Ragnol finds himself traveling with Caesar and sometimes acting as Caesar's envoy (which lands him in some precarious situations in encounters with fascinating rulers).

The further development of the characters of Atlas, Carden, and especially the blood thirsty (literally) Chamanca, is very well done, taking characters that where minor antagonists (though formidable foes) in the first novel and making them primary characters and excellent assets for Lowa.

Watson has taken the blank slate that is the history of the Iron Age in Britain, and invented a most interesting history to fill in that blank. Epic battles, magic at the right moments, very interesting characters, some surprise creatures, and women who are decidedly NOT wimps...
