He was insanely handsome with a body meant for the devil's playground.

Controversial relationship podcaster at night and psychology professor by day, Chicago Benton has never been afraid to follow his own rules. Raised by an emotionally unstable mother and dealing with women who played too many games taught him only to depend on himself. Love was only optional.

Striving playwright Indigo Lyriq moved to New York on a wing and a prayer that her work would be seen on a Broadway stage one day. Raised by an aunt because her parents didn't want her, and dealing with an abusive relationship taught her to never rely on a man. Love was a luxury she couldn't afford.

Yet, fate intervened.

And love became a necessity.

This story really touched me. Perfectly written and perfectly performed. It very much felt like a play and I wasn’t ready for it to end. Excited to follow this author now.

Great story! The way mental health and domestic violence was addressed was both sensitive and informative. I enjoyed the thought provoking conversation around partners position in a relationship. This book was well written. The narrators were both excellent!

This was a story that I kept putting off for some unknown reason. I can honestly say this was such a great story. Tackling mental health and domestic violence in a respectful and accurate manner is difficult and I felt like Tiye did a great job. The narrators brought the book to life and I'm so glad I will get a book 2.

Chicago is not an easy character to love—and that’s exactly what makes him compelling. At first, his perspectives, particularly surrounding relationships and women, are enough to give pause. However, as the story unfolds, it becomes clear that his behavior is deeply rooted in unresolved trauma. Losing his father at a young age and navigating life with a mother battling mental illness shaped him in ways that are both heartbreaking and complex.

What stands out most is the character development. Chicago evolves in a way that feels earned, not forced. Despite his flaws—his emotional instability, his guarded nature, and his skewed worldview—there is an undeniable depth to his character. His charm, confidence, and vulnerability eventually balance out the initial resistance, making him a character readers may find themselves unexpectedly rooting for.

The relationship between Chicago and Zuri is equally compelling. Their shared experiences and emotional baggage create a dynamic filled with tension, passion, and authenticity. Their connection feels raw and real, highlighting both the beauty and the difficulty of love shaped by trauma.

Beyond the romance, the novel does an excellent job addressing serious topics such as mental health and domestic violence without diminishing their weight. These elements add a level of realism that elevates the story beyond a typical romance.

Tiye successfully delivers a story that is messy, honest, and deeply human—one that stays with you long after the final page.

Love this series!
