The new novel in the #1 New York Times best-selling Dresden Files series. Long ago, Susan Rodriguez was Harry Dresden's lover - until she was attacked by his enemies, leaving her torn between her own humanity and the bloodlust of the vampiric Red Court. Susan then disappeared to South America, where she could fight both her savage gift and those who cursed her with it.
Now Arianna Ortega, Duchess of the Red Court, has discovered a secret Susan has long kept, and she plans to use it - against Harry. To prevail this time, he may have no choice but to embrace the raging fury of his own untapped dark power. Because Harry's not fighting to save the world...He's fighting to save his child.

I also have to say something about James Marsters- the narrator. Holy Cheese Doodles is this guy good. He can make a shout sound like a shout without it hurting your eardrums, he can meld his voice so it sounds, very believably, like a female whisper. He can produce the crack of dry humor and the choke in his throat when deep sorrow is called for. He did an excellent job of narrating this book and I was left wishing he had been hired to narrate the Codex Allera books that Butcher has also written. (but that is another review.)
Can't say enough good things about this one. Definitely worth the buy.
WOW. I'm stunned!

I am so pleased that Audible now has the complete series now and I recommend you start at the beginning and have the sweet experience of going through all twelve books.
James Marsters does his very best in this audiobook. It's almost more of a dramatized version than an unabridged audiobook! Thanks, James for such an excellent performance.

I ordered this the moment it came out and listened to it every free moment I got. A lot of the past plots, twists, and unexplained endings come together here and it leaves you with the ohhh factor. A lot of it mad me scream at my iphone and say "No, NO, NO"
I won't give anything away, but it is a roller coaster of emotions as well as wondering if there will be a next book. I admit I went to the Jim Butcher website to see there is another book.
I did call my dad up and told him he had to read this one so I had someone to discuss it with. :) If you are a Harry Dresden fan, you will love and yet hate this book for many reasons, but it is a must read.

A great many pieces of the series puzzle comes together in this book, with closely held secrets being revealed. For the long time Dresden Files followers, the ending will leave you mumbling to yourself in a dark room long after the last word is spoken.
James Marsters delivers a superb performance, and arguably his best, artfully conveying the entire spectrum of human, and inhuman, emotion. His outstanding narrative accurately portrays the emotional state of the characters and captures the gritty, desperate, and "gut wrenching" feel of the story.
Jim Butcher has expertly broadened the depth of the main characters and kept them new and fresh in this telling. Butcher has proven his ability to weave an intricate long term series storyline, while surrounding it with unique and interesting subplots. He again exhibits his extraordinary ability to draw the reader into identifying with the characters so completely, that when he sticks the metaphorical, or actual, knife in, the reader feels it as surely as if it were him or her.
A superb piece of writing with an ending that will leave Dresden Files fans numb.
A definite "MUST READ".
Can you say "cliff hanger"?

James Marsters is excellent when it comes to reading the Dresden Files. I can not separate the actor from the character now. His reading of this particular book was on point and very emotional.
Thank you Jim Butcher for the Harry Dresden universe and I wait for more to come.
A Classic
