Resumen del Editor

Is there evidence to believe the Gospels?

The Gospels - Matthew, Mark, Luke, John - are four accounts of Jesus' life and teachings while on earth. But should we accept them as historically accurate? What evidence is there that the recorded events actually happened?

Presenting a case for the historical reliability of the Gospels, New Testament scholar Peter Williams examines evidence from non-Christian sources, assesses how accurately the four biblical accounts reflect the cultural context of their day, compares different accounts of the same events, and looks at how these texts were handed down throughout the centuries. Everyone from the skeptic to the scholar will find powerful arguments in favor of trusting the Gospels as trustworthy accounts of Jesus' earthly life.

Outstanding all the way around

A short but deep look at the validity of the gospels. Well written. Well researched. Well presented. Worth the time for any reader.

A down to earth, scholarly look into the gospels

I was impressed by the level of scholarship in this book. The author made his assumptions clear, didn't overstate his case, and didn't put other people down. This is a short book, but very dense. It's given me a lot to think about!

surprised

I will listen to the rest but the error of the author regarding which James was killed in Acts makes me wonder about his scholarship. Disappointing.

Delivers

Interesting content, delivered clearly. Williams makes a strong case for the Gospels being reliable historical narratives, that support each other from various angles without directly copying. Compelling.

Material is sound, narration is painful.

I think the title says it all. Sound, logical info. Narration makes it hard to listen.

Excellent documentation, thoughtful review by scholar

It’s frustrating that Audible doesn’t include the charts and other data from the printed book.

A great (and concise) deep dive

As someone that does not have a hard time believing in Jesus, or trusting the Bible, I already came into this book with a solid faith. But this book was fantastic! Not to mention the fact that though I already have a degree from Seminary that I spent years working on, I learned a ton of new stuff that strengthened my faith even more regardless. I'd highly recommend this book to both the skeptic and the devout, alike! And as an added bonus, the narrator does a great job of reading with an accent to boot. For a quick hit on some intriguing insight into the Gospels, read this book today!

Great information

The book was a little bit dry for my taste but the information was very convincing. If you’re looking for convincing evidence for the Gospels this is a good source.

Can we trust? Absolutely.

This book is an excellent source for someone studying the reliability of the Gospels: cogent, concise, and magisterially argued. If you pass up on this book you have picked your own pocket. Tbh, the narrator was a letdown, with mispronouncing several words - important words at that. But if you're an honest skeptic, don't let that be an excuse why you pass this gem up, it's well worth the work.

Concise, palatable, amazing!

This book was wonderfully enlightening, a great first book for someone wanting to dig into the historicity of Christianity, as well as a wonderful addition to a collection of theology and divinity!

So thankful for this book, it truly affirmed my faith and will continue to edify me as I listen again!!
