One of the best

This is one of the best romance novels I have ever read/listened to. It is funny and unique in its story. The characters are believable and well developed. The women’s suffrage movement was long in coming and the movement as a backdrop was perfect. Well done.

One of the best of its kind

Sweet and sizzling love story between two intelligent rounded grownups. well written love scenes (not a trivial thing as it turns out). Aldo good development of historical background and a fine cluster of supporting characters all make this an infectious read. Could not put it down.

This story is well written, witty, swoony, and sexy! It's an absolute delight, and amazingly well read!

Loved this feminist heroine

Most people fall in love with romance novels for the heroes. I fall in love for the heroines. I loved that this heroine was dealing with real problems for her time that were unique to being a woman, not just in search of a husband, in search of a viable life given choices she'd made and choices she wasn't willing to make.

Unexpected but fun!

While I did like this book it was definitely not what I was expecting! I haven’t read many historical romances but this one was recommended by a friend. I really enjoyed both Annabel and Sebastian as characters and found myself invested in their struggles.

However, I wasn’t expecting some of the more graphic descriptions. Maybe I’m just too new to the genre but it was a bit unexpected for me! If you have younger children who read above their level maybe check this out before letting them pick it up.

I also really appreciated the authors note at the end that spoke of the real events surrounding the story. I don’t know much about the English Suffrage movement and this book has piqued my interest enough to read more on the topic.

Good read even with a heavy bit of angst.

What a challenging historical HEA Evie Dunmore created between a stony-hearted duke and a strong-tempered female student at Oxford. Do not expect details or summary here of this strongly researched historical romance. Instead, I submit to enjoying the dialogue, the inventive characters and all the kerfuffle around women's rights and freedoms during this time. As a happy feminist, I salute the women (and many men) who had the courage and tenacity to bring forth the freedoms I have in the twenty-first century. I also happily appreciate the freedom I have to be a feminist yet remain a romantic at heart while a realist. Both do exist in an odd harmony.

It was never ending…

I was in love with the characters! I honestly adored the book until about halfway. It just kept following the same loop over and over between Annabelle and Sebastian. I just kept getting confused by Annabelle’s actions and would sometimes yell at the characters in frustration. About an hour left and I had to stop listening. It was infuriating how long and dragged out their relationship was.

Good story, good history, too much sex

I love historical romance. This one did a great job of smart,witty characters with solid historical background. But the sex was a bit forced. It almost felt uncomfortable and unnecessary in some situations.

Enjoyable Listen

I enjoyed this one! This was a book club pick, and I am so glad I grabbed the audio. I liked the romance, but some of the political moves fell a little flat for me. Overall, a fun historical romance!

Loved it!

Gotta love a relatable heroine in a historical romance. Annabelle is a wonderful character, I found myself rooting her on as if she were my friend. Not too spicy, but definitely sexy in a heart-palpitating way. I loved that it wasn't too predictable, also, which kept my attention and had me gobbling up the story. I will definitely be reading the next book in the series!
