Acerca de esta escucha

Much of the layperson's knowledge of the brain is predicated on a lack of understanding about this mysterious organ. To start building a more straightforward, accurate understanding of current breakthroughs in neuroscience, you have to start by shattering popular brain myths.

Each of these 24 lectures takes as its focus a single powerful, prevalent brain myth, and uses it as a launch pad from which to explore myriad topics in neuroscience: decision making, memory, dreams, emotions, neuroplasticity, consciousness, mental illness, and much more.

Our memory is an accurate, objective record of the past. Our senses reflect the world as it really exists. Our dreams have hidden meanings. We are only using 10% of our total brain power. Modern technology (including social media) is making us less intelligent. Dr. Viskontas doesn't just settle for obliterating these and other myths. Instead, she replaces them with scientific facts gathered from experiments, research, and case studies. The result is an eye-opening adventure into the latest understanding of why the brain works the way it does.

Whatever order you enjoy these lectures in, you'll be left with insights that will help you better determine the hard scientific truths behind the breaking news (and myths) of tomorrow.

I just finished Brain Myths Exploded and loved every minute of the course. Indre does an incredible job mixing high-quality information with an entertaining delivery. Lots of great anecdotes and explanations delivered in memorable and accessible ways. I would absolutely recommend this book for anyone interested in learning more about the brain. I studied neuroscience in college and found Indre's summaries and commentary much more enjoyable and clearer than my classes!

I seem to be going through a science and anti-woo phase :-). Don't worry, I still do fictional mysteries as well… This book was very interesting; to me the most interesting and thought-provoking part was when she talked about new thoughts about the autistic properties and possible explanations leading to them. She was careful to state that there is no actual knowledge, but there are paths of study. I was very happy to hear that the question is still open! Anyway, the book overall points out the fact that the mind and thoughts are neither simple nor as well understood as we would like. She stated several things that I had already heard, but she put it all in the context of "we have a lot of work to do!" Good book.

The workings of the brain aren't simple

A superb review of the field. This will cross many of your bravely held notions but replace them with well researched alternatives.

A good survey of the field

I’ve listened to a few audiobooks regarding the mysteries of the brain and this one is definitely one I recommend! Dr.Viskontas uses a plethora of research to back her arguments and she’s entertaining! A must listen for all brain nerds.

Well done and a fun listen!

A lot of neat info, and even for the stuff I already had a decent idea about, there were a lot of specifics and history of how we came to learn things that I appreciated.

It was a bit hard to listen to some of the old procedures that were done when brains were still more of a mystery to us, and send shivers down my spine thinking about it.

Overall, it really just makes you rethink how certain you are that you know what you know and that the world is what it is, which I like.

Some parts are not for the queezie

I was drawn in as the writer painted a perfect picture of the brain. Awesome book. Well worth the time and money.

Extremely engaging.

I really loved this! I was skeptical when I started because I’ve already learned a lot about cognition and neuroscience, but I still found this very interesting and found a different takes on things I. I highly recommend!

Loved it❤️

I followed right along with the narrator. Also, the points of how not all subjects are the same. I'm intrigued by the way our bodies work. I would recommend this.

I like it
