Acerca de esta escucha
An inspiring true story of an 11-year-old boy’s rise from the tragic memories and utter despair of his years in an English Workhouse. His dreams and hope for a better life in the fledgeling Colony of Sydney, New South Wales, became a reality in 1833 when he emigrated with his wife and three small children. There, he opened his business as a high class Saddler and Shoe and Boot maker in George Street. Through his extraordinary skills as a shrewd businessman, he was able to become a wealthy influential entrepreneur.
Over the next 58 years, with the help of his large and devoted family, he was able to make a huge contribution in business, local government, as well as socially and spiritually as a prominent church leader. Not only was his influence felt in the Eastern Suburbs, Waverley and Bondi in particular, but all of Sydney and parts of New South Wales. Joseph Dickson’s story has an important place in the history of our early development, and as such, deserves to be told in its entirety. Those who choose to listen to it will be richly rewarded.

Historia
From the 1920s to 1950, Georgia Tann ran a black-market baby business at the Tennessee Children’s Home Society in Memphis. The publication of Lisa Wingate’s novel Before We Were Yours brought new awareness of Tann’s lucrative career in child trafficking. Adoptees who knew little about their pasts gained insight into the startling facts behind their family histories. Encouraged by their contact with Wingate and award-winning journalist Judy Christie, who documented the stories of 15 adoptees in this book, many determined Tann survivors set out to trace their roots.

Historia
The Three Graces of Val-Kill changes the way we think about Eleanor Roosevelt. Emily Wilson examines what she calls the most formative period in Roosevelt's life, from 1922 to 1936, when she cultivated an intimate friendship with Marion Dickerman and Nancy Cook, who helped her build a cottage on the Val-Kill Creek in Hyde Park on the Roosevelt family land. In the early years, the three women - the "three graces", as Franklin Delano Roosevelt called them - were nearly inseparable.

Robert Wilson, editor of The American Scholar, tells a gripping story in Barnum, one that’s imbued with the same buoyant spirit as the man himself. Wilson adeptly makes the case for P. T. Barnum’s place among the icons of American history, as a figure who represented, and indeed created, a distinctly American sense of optimism, industriousness, humor, and relentless energy.

His good friend Mark Twain dubbed him "St. Andrew." British Prime Minister William Gladstone called him an "example" for the wealthy. Such terms seldom apply to multimillionaires. But Andrew Carnegie was no run-of-the-mill steel magnate. At age 13 and full of dreams, he sailed from his native Dunfermline, Scotland, to America. Here, in one volume, are two impressive works by Andrew Carnegie himself: his autobiography and The Gospel of Wealth, a groundbreaking manifesto on the duty of the wealthy to give back to society all of their fortunes.
