Resumen del Editor

A vampire has a number of handy skills - he can walk through walls, shrug off bullets, and hypnotize mortals. But one thing this particular vampire cannot do is trace his mother - until now. His trail leads him to a 200-year-old gigolo with a taste for blood, who claims not to know where she is - but who would trust a vampire?

Fire and Ice!

Chicago, September 1936. Jonathan “Jack” Flemming and his friend Escott continued to look for Maureen, Jack’s Master. In their investigation, they discovered Jonathan Barrett, an old lover of Maureen’s some three decades ago. This was the best lead they had come across. Their investigation now concentrated on Barrett. Did Barrett have something to do with Maureen’s disappearance? What did Barrett know? There were also three women identified in the investigation. What did they know or how were they involved? An exciting conclusion to the series.

Enjoyed it more than expected

I was very skeptical about the new narrator at first having enjoyed the first one emensely. But after getting used to his voice, with the exception of his stumbling over some accents, it was quite enjoyable.
The story was interesting and unexpected as well.

More! More!

Seems like I've been waiting forever for the next book in this series. I was somewhat hesitant when I saw that Barrett Whitener was not the narrator for this book but Johnny Heller does a respectable job. The book itself caught my interest right away and kept it for the entire book. I was afraid it had been so long since I'd listened to the others that I wouldn't remember what was going on but the book did a good job of refreshing my memory without overdoing it. I hope Audible is going to release the rest of the books in the series now that they've done this one and that the wait for the next will be much shorter!

Love the new voice actor

I love this series and the first two (2) audiobooks were great, but this new voice actor has more of a 1930’s feel to his voice (at least what I imagine people sounded like in the 1930’s due to the movies I have enjoyed). I love that this series is in audiobook format! On to the next book!

Hate that theh changed narrators mid-series.

Nice 1930's hardboiled detective story with a vampire twist. Different narrator that the first two stories though. Although he may even have a better voice for the period I hate when narrators change mid-series.

Great Vampire series, bad reader

The first two books were read by someone else. This reader can't do an English accent. His voice sounds middle age and the main character was in his 30's and then essentially in his early 20's once he died. I love the series, having read all the books and listened to the first two on tape repeatedly. I don't have the time or the eyesight to read the books so I will be getting the entire series, but I would prefer a better reader. I don't know how they choose readers when one of the main characters is English and the reader can't do the accent. I accept the reader as Richard Castle, but he is using the same cadence for this book.

I cannot get past the reader’s voice

I should’ve checked my bad. Not the same person reading as in book one an two. Very gravelly. Irritated me.
I’m quite sure he’s a very nice man.

Excellent story and premise. Terrible narrator

True fan on this serie, the first two books' narrator locked the personalities of the character. Not exceptional or amazing performace, but his work is very good and professional. Now that the story has gotten some momentum started and the books only improve, a trainwreck of a narrator change happens and follows in all the other books' audio renditions.

Heller's performance is lackluster and just reads the book aloud. Heller fails to bring any life or personality for any of the characters. While his narrator voice is great for the MC, there is no difference among any of the other characters.

This quickly kills any interest in the story and explains while this serie is so poorly followed and purchased. A perfect example of when a well written series stalls in audible sales due to poor choice of a narrator based on performance costs.

Great book, awful choice of narrator.

I love this series, but it looks like I won't be buying any more of these audiobooks. Johnny Heller is possibly the worst narrator that could have been chosen. His scratchy, jowly narration is so incredibly off-putting, his feminine voices are horrific, and his British accent is practically offensive. I have no clue who thought Heller was a good replacement for Whitener, but they made a terrible mistake. I'm not even sure I can finish this book. It's such a shame, because this really is a good series.
