Much better than I was led to think

Would you consider the audio edition of Blood, Money, and Power to be better than the print version?

Yes, I find the author to be quite creditable about delivery and accent. It is very good.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Blood, Money, and Power?

That LBJ was as bad as he was. My grandfather told me this when I was 9..(I am 59 now with a PhD in history) I am amazed at this man.

What about Barr McClellan???s performance did you like?

He knows the subject very well.

Very interesting perspective

I wonder why this perpective has not made it to main stream media? We have analyzed so many angles why not this one? This was a very good listen!

i am glad I did not listen to bad narrator review. He's fine,just southern, midwesterie accent which i am used to being from Indiana. It is slow but well written. JFK,political history buffs don't miss this one ....facinating look at LBJ

This is a very interesting book but the author writes so much better than he reads. His terrible rendition of his own work makes me long for anything that Scott Brick might say. I wonder if he can write? I haven't finished the book yet but I had to comment before I heard one more word.

Verdict: Guilty!

Barr paints a complaining picture that revels LBJ as the red handed culprit in the JFK assassination.

Yes - it was an interesting concept.

What did you like best about this story?

The story is founded on a fundemental aspect of crime investigation - follow the MOTIVE and the MONEY.LBJ was on his way OFF the national stage as VP to a dynamic Kennedy and had Kennedy lived to serve two terms, LBJ would have been nothing more important than yesterday's skid-marked shorts.J. Edgar Hoover is another one who had ample motive....he went from having his hat handed to him by the Kennedy's to being named Director for Life....that's a VERY telling point!The Military Industrial Complex benefitted by the billions - of dollars. LBJ insured that U.S. involvement in Vietnam went UP which equates directly with government (taxpayer) dollars forked over to weapons manufacturers.There are simply too many "coincidences" following the "rub-out" of JFK to ignore. SOMEBODY in power benefitted...there was no other motive for his killing.Oswald is the portrait of the classic CIA recruit...young, impressionable, disaffected with the status quo...seeking to effect change and eager to BE that change. The whole chain of events unfolding are "textbook" assassination protocol....in fact, taken right from the pages of Alexander Dumas' "The Three Musketeers"! A young zealot with a righteous cause, an inside connected mobster ordered to "take one for the team" and snuff him out, and a Vice President who has a KNOWN RECORD of having engaged in felonious acts to gain office....and if HE didn't, his "handlers" did! An FBI Director who could ONLY gain from John and Bobby being toast...Obviously this story has a LOT to think about.

No, it was all quite intriguing.

Author should have a narrator

I struggled to listen to this because of the narrator. People who ask why this took so long to come to light must remember that attorney/client privilege was the main issue.

I learned far more than I ever wanted to know about Texas.

As an 8 year old child in 1963. I knew LBJ was involved. There is a photo of the Kennedys coming from the plane and heading toward the car and crowd. LBJ is walking behind them and the look on his face is strange for the day.

I think LBJ underestimated the grief and anger of the people after the death of JFK. He could never be a charismatic leader or achieve 1% of the popularity. That had to bite.

I wish the author had used a narrator instead of reading it himself. If I hear "warshington" again I may hurl.

Just as I Suspected ....... and More!

"misskb" is right-on, this is the worst 'listen' I've experienced since joining Audible, but I'm not going to waste as much energy as she did belaboring the point.

This book validates my suspicions of November 22, 1963, I have always felt LBJ was at the bottom of everything that culminated in the death of Kennedy. I am a self proclaimed "Kennedy Assassination' junkie and have read most of the books on the subject and have NEVER subscribed to the Posner, Warren Commission, FBI and Secret Service theory(s) of that day. This book will open your eyes to how raw power corrupts and has no bounds. You need only ask a simple question still used today to begin all crime/murder investigations ..... "Who stood to benefit the most from the occurance"?

I would have awarded 5 stars were it not for 'the reader', with that said, I consider this book a 'must read' if your into the Kennedy Assassination and/or conspiracies.

An amazing story!

I did struggle to finish this story.Confused by events from the authors jumping around characters and time events.I'm saddened.I am saddened by the power and deceite that is allowed in Law and politics.This should not be tolerated.

An Informative, Intriguing...Excrutiating listen

There is good news and bad news here. Good news first - this is a truly fascinating insider account of Lyndon Johnson's rise to the presidency.

The bad news?

Who, in their right mind (aside from the author), thought that he should narrate this audiobook? Obviously no one put much thought into this, or, as I suspect, they had no choice and the author's ego and copyrights required it. This is one of the WORST narrations I have found in over 200 Audible audiobooks. Imagine Richard Nixon narrating a life story while using a southern accent and you come close. Every word is pronounced (or mispronounced) ponderously and with great gravity so that the listener won't miss a single nugget of "pleasure". I know that I particularly loved hearing "Washington" pronounced as "Woorshington" and the "Military Industrial Complex" mentioned ad nauseum (actually 4 times in 3 consecutive sentences if you can believe it), the terms "with hindsight" and "in hindsight" (which is pretty standard) used as "on hindsight" (not a regionalism, as I come from Texas and have never heard it before). There are numerous inexpicable pauses, stumbles, starts and stops, stutters and many more oddities which become increasingly annoying as they accumulate.

Furthermore, the author speaks SO (pause) SLOWLY (pause) that it is too easy to let the mind wander - this book requires a real effort to get through to the end.

Finally, the self-aggrandizement and condescension gets old pretty quickly but that's to be expected from a Texas attorney, no doubt. A good question might be "And how did YOU avoid indictment, Barr, for all the criminal acts your mentors and associates committed?" That question is never asked.

Do yourself a favor and buy the book - for it IS worth the story - and read it for yourself...This particular telling of the story is mind-numbingly painful.

Too bad, really, for a professional reading would have made this a pure delight rather than the torture that it was/is!
