Unexpectedly Beautiful

I’ll admit I was hesitant to listen to this one. I got so enamored with Michael and Alex’s story that I didn’t want to give Lamont the time of day! But I’m so glad I did. The story is wonderful, which is a standard for Joan Vassar.

Bittersweet is so much more than a romance novel, it’s really a story of family. There was something so healing for me about this story, the way that the characters fill each other’s lives. The ending in particular has incredibly profound subtext.

And of course, Joan Vassar is a master of eroticism. There’s even more sex scenes than Sweet Honesty and trust me they are delicious!

Bittersweet is informative, really. Polyamory doesn’t seem so strange. This story is one I’m willing to bet has existed in hundreds of families, just not in so many words. I also appreciate that these stories take place during a time when being polyamorous or queer is heavily condemned. It opens one’s eyes to the possibility of how people really lived in the 1950s behind closed doors, concealed with well constructed narratives and unspoken truths. It’s such a beautiful story about the disillusionment and redefinition of love, family, and community.

PLEASE, let there be a part three!!! What happens to the children as the grow up together in the 60's? How do they adjust to the relationship of three parents during the normalized 50's and 60's of two parent households.

I have thoroughly loved both books!!!! Listened to both of them in two days!!!!!!

Amazing

I love this series so much. I couldn’t wait for the audio. Love the TRI dynamic of there relationship that Grew to an untouchable love.

Love is patient

Lamont and Jack were two characters from Sweet Honesty that I didn’t know if I would like based on their behavior in the previous book. Lamont couldn’t own his truth and led Vickie on, and Jack wanted to force Alex into relationship that he didn’t want. When Lamont ended up at Jack’s house, it was the best decision ever. Watching the growth in both Lamont and Jack was beautiful. We got to find out their traumas and fears, which added a heart-aching perspective. The addition and evolution of their mutual friendship and love for Vickie and each other was a bird’s eye view into polyamory and how love works in human form when it is real, kind and patient. Another wonderful story and dynamic narration.

The tender moments are everything!

I love how delicately and intentionally the author handled each character. My favorite thing about this book is how everything progressed at an even pace. I love all of the intimacy and tender moments. I love how they chose each other, even at the risk judgement and rejection. I am so happy that the judgement and rejection didn't overwhelmingly overshadow their love for one another and their love story. This was such a sweet story. It was also sweet how the middle spoon depended on who needed it the most. This was a wonderful read that gave me absolutely everything I needed in a romance novel.
