Disappointed

I’ve enjoyed the preceding book narrations as five stars. What makes them appealing is their uniquely English aspects. This attempt to make the series more acceptable to an American audience is a flop. A pale imitation of what made the narration of the series great. Fire the US distributor and revert to the UK English narration and vocabulary.

Miss the other narrator!

Could not follow Simon Mattacks had to switch to reading from my kindle. Story was great narration terrible could not follow who was speaking Nick,Jane,Louise all had the same voice.

Where's Napoleon Ryan??

I have really enjoyed this series, but the change of narrator is extremely disappointing.
He's a fine narrator, but after the whole series being done by Napoleon Ryan, it's a big let down.
I hope we can get a version of this book narrated by him in the near future.

i really enjoy this series

i came across this series by mistakes and glad i did. i missed the d narrator on this one but this narrator did not fail to impress keep up the great writing.

More complex plot than some others in the series

This installment of the series has a more complex plot than others I’ve read in it. It has a good start then tends to drag in the middle when additional villians come into play. By the end, all complications are wrapped up satisfactorily and advancing DI Nick Dixon’s personal story. Even with some pacing faults a mystery by Damien Boyd outshines 95% of the rest.
The ensemble cast continues to entertain.
Great narration carries the listener through the weaker plot points, making this another successful series entry.

I miss the former narrator

Story quality is interesting as usual, BUT the former narrator was so talented and the new narration is just adequate.

Reading

So glad the reader changed. I could not listen to Swansong with that reader. Ugh.

Needs Original Narrator.

Another great Nick Dixon novel In desperate need of the Original. Hopefully next book has Titus.

Great book but not so good narration..

This is a tough one in some ways. As always, Nick Dixon books are awesome. BUT when you’ve listened to 8 of them with the same narrator and then he changes on book 9 it’s hard to figure out if you liked it as much as the others.

According to the story, I did. It started in 1994 (I think) with a man committing suicide, then moves to present day. It’s about a serial killer that finally gets cornered and says he’ll kill his hostage unless he can talk to Dixon. And that where the story really starts. More bad guys showed up and there ended up being a total of 3 and Dixon had to find out who each one was. It was really a good mystery.

No sex and the F-bomb was used 25 times.

As to the narration: Simon Mattacks was barely okay for me. His female voices are pretty bad and he doesn’t read with any emotion. I really, really missed Napoleon Ryan. The last thing he narrated was in May of 2018. I hope that doesn’t mean he’s quit narrating. I mean, if Mr. Ryan wasn't available you could have gotten Luke Daniels or Scott Brick or Eric Dove, or any number of narrators that would have done justice to Dixon and the few women that were in the book.
