Loved, loved, loved, loved this listen

This roller coaster of a listen was fun, and thrilling, and scary, and the minute it ended, I wanted back on.

The narration was perfect. Jenna was equal parts take-no-prisoners and soft and she knew when to let someone take care of her and when to take charge. You go girl.

The bad guys here were REALLY unlikable. I'm not sure if I fully agree with their motivations but that matters none, they got theirs in the end.

Did I mention how much I loved this listen?

This book ended with a resolution and a cliffhanger and I can't wait to take another ride.

More like a soap opera.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I always prefer to read books with strong female characters. That's why I picked this book too. But I was sorta disappointed. Jenna didn't seem too bright, considering that she's Assistant DA n all. The other character constructions were poor as well. I didn't understand anyone's motive, tbf. And there were lot of unnecessary details that didn't contribute to the story at all. It sounded more like the author was trying to impress us with his knowledge of the subject matter. But instead, it distracted us from the story.

This book centers around Jenna, the female character who's main objective is to follow the rules.

The story line has a quick pace, a few hours in court, murder, and corruption, which lead to a decent mystery thriller novel.

Logan McAllister did well with the narration.

Yes, when you know the end from the beginning you can put the pieces together better.

Loved his voice, cadence and knowledge of characters that brings them to life.

Fantastic Mystery Thriller!

What do you do when a prospective case comes home to roost, suddenly, no one is what they seemed, and the “facts” are as clear as mud! Where do you turn, who do you trust? If your Assistant DA Jenna James, you use all your wits, courage, and every trick in your arsenal to see justice done! “Beyond a Reasonable Doubt” is the first book in what promises to be a dynamic and deeply satisfying series! The characters are plentiful, diverse and well developed with complete backstories! They are ALL so filled with personality! I’d love to have some of them in MY life, while others … let’s just say they’re as shifty as the sands at high tide! No spoilers, I’ll not give away who fits where! This action packed plot is fast moving and held my attention throughout! Both the dialogue and scene setting are very well written, ring true, and serve to keep the story moving forward at a comfortable pace, leaving this listener both supremely satisfied and with no unanswered questions at the conclusion! Beautifully clear, emotionally appropriate narration make listening a pleasure! I look forward to more of what is sure to be a fabulous series! Five stars. I loved it!

Legal Corruption

Jenna is a smart successful Assistant District Attorney who gets caught up in her boyfriend’s corrupt family. The head of the family, Judge William Elkins is rich and powerful and will do anything to keep his long line of unethical cover-ups secret.. Jenna fights hard with a couple of police friends to bring justice to the judge and his co-horts.. The story is a face paced thriller which was hard to put down.

Beyond a Reasonable Doubt by Linda S. Prather was a good book. This was a great legal thriller that centered around Assistant DA Jenna James. Jenna finds herself a victim and many things around her start unraveling. This was a great Read and I can't wait to read more by Linda S. Prather.

Had a hard time getting into

I was given this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review. The book started out good but soon lost me. I had a hard time keeping up with all the characters. Definitely not a bad read but just not one of my favorites.

Wow.. Scandalous!!

Just finished. Beyond a Reasonable Doubt and have to say it was an excellent, very well written suspense/thriller book. The characters were Well-developed and the story line was fast paced. I read the book in a few days.. I could see this book made into a movie!

Good story, somewhat far-fetched in places

Would you listen to Beyond a Reasonable Doubt again? Why?

Probably not, although I might listen to the next in the series. I don't usually revisit audiobooks because I am wanting to hear new books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harry Redmond because he was one of the most believable characters in the book. Still flawed, but believably so.

What three words best describe Logan McAllister’s performance?

Mechanical, stereotypical and okay.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Lots of bodies and bombs everywhere.

I really thought Jenna was going to be a great character. She is merely good character. At times she is really savvy and I could get behind her 100%. Then there were times she was really not very smart and that didn't work very well. Granted, a perfect heroine or hero is unbelievable, but any flaws built into the character should be in line with the character. For instance, she is a brilliant Assistant District Attorney who is prosecuting high profile crimes, yet she is naive enough to open her door without seeing who is there when she knows there are people out to harm her. Doesn't really mesh. Some of the other ups and downs in her character just seemed too out of balance. Yet, she is a likable character.

Additionally, the book sometimes took unexpected turns that were somewhat disjointed. At times I thought I had an abridged edition. There were also a lot of happenings in the book that caused the book to lack believability. All of the bodies piling up and an unrelenting two decades of a reign of terror by a corrupt federal judge.

Further, there were a lot of loose ends that weren't quite satisfactorily tied up. I won't mention these in detail because I don't want this review to be a spoiler.

Yet, with all of these issues, I did like the book and will likely get the next in the series. This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
