Levin Crowdley is engaged to the man of her dreams, or so she thought. That is, until a stranger appears on her doorstep to suggest Alec, her adoring fiancé, is anything but.

No one has ever left Alec. More precisely; no one has ever left Alec and lived to tell about it.

Levin's life is now about survival, a game of cat and mouse as Alec pursues her.

And the second he catches her, he’s never letting go. ’Til death do them part.

This book was a good display of true resilience. It made me reflect upon just how many people are “Sleeping with the enemy.” Some themes were greed, domestic violence, trauma, and revenge. It was a good read overall.

Good storyline that displays true resilience

This book is more for adults due to the situation the characters find themselves in and the author is not scared to use profanity or crude language. This actually gives you a picture of what the main male character is like.
However, I found it is not for me. I liked the description and I knew there was going to be profanity but I found it hard to listen too.
This is a personal opinion and others might disagree with me and love it. There is nothing wrong with the plot, it is just not for me.
If you don't mind significant amount of profanity and love thrillers then this book is for you.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I was taken with this book right from the beginning. I was rooting and empathizing with Levin as she tried to get away from Alex. I read several other reviewers indicate that this story did not ring true -- but I could not disagree more. There are many men like Alex who are extremely possessive and dictate how their spouse/GF will behave/will dress/speak, etc. And like Alex, these men can react violently when their spouse/GF tries to end their relationship. You just have to watch the news or read the newspaper to see evidence of this behavior. Having said that, Alex was an over-the-top character but I enjoyed that aspect of unpredictability.

I thought it was great that this book is written with Levin's and Alex's point of view alternating chapters. This is a very emotionally driven drama between Alex and Levin. The only thing that I thought distracted from that drama was Levin's possible romance with another character. I also felt the ending was a bit rushed.

The narrator, Wally Schrass, did a great job as Alex -- a very narcissitic character. A few times, the narrator repeated phrases or sentences which should have been edited out in quality control.

It's a "page turner" I know there are no actual pages but the story kept me engage the whole way through. It's not a complicated read whatsoever. But what is there is read that is brisk and fast paced. I was also a scary read and it kept me up at night.

Engaging and a page turner

Relationships needed more depth. Plot was rushed. The swiftness of the story didn't bode well overall. I enjoyed the snarkiness of the lead male, as well as the narrator. But overall, glad it was over.

Left me wanting more

This story had a lot of potential but it was like the author couldn’t decide whether to write a love story or thriller.

The thriller aspect was VERY amateur and the love aspect was juvenile. The love story was laughable. The two character relationships were not developed enough to make the outcome believable.

The story was narrated by one voice which was a guy even though the story talks in first person going back and forth between two characters. The story would have been a lot better if the narrators were male and female. Hearing a man read for a women in first person was hard. It made it difficult to get into the characters.

Lastly, the story ends abruptly leaving multiple loose threads which annoyed me as a listener. If you are going to write mysteries, please give us answers that make sense in the end. Overall, the author has potential but needs to work more on character development and plot.

Amateur Writing with Poor Casting

Because of personal trauma, I had a hard time listening to this book.

*Proceed with caution if you're a survivor of abuse.*

The text on the cover of the book says, "He likes the HUNT. She likes the CHASE. Run, Rabbit, RUN." Nothing in this book led me to believe that Levin, the female protagonist, enjoys the chase. Levin feels stifled in her relationship with Alec. And rightly so. He's controlling, abusive, and a complete creep. (We know this because he tells us. The author switches between Levin and Alec's point of view.) She cuts ties and runs away to start a new life, and he follows.

The story plays out like a Lifetime movie - no subtly or nuance.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

I really enjoyed this story. It follows an age old tale of a woman getting out of an abusive relationship but there are lots of twists and turns. Overall I thought it was very solid and deserves a listen to. The narration was very good.

Enjoyed

Levin is in an emotionally abusive controlling relationship with Alec her fiancé. It opens up with Levin preparing to leave him discreetly and throughout the book there are a few flashbacks to explain the reasoning for her decision to leave. The man she loves may be a killer. The narration is well done and it is a character POV per chapter, one from Levin’s perspective and the next Alec. It definitely held my attention and I whipped thru it quite quickly. Definitely a good cat and mouse tale with a twist here and there. I look forward to more by this author and narrator. Not a bad thriller.
