Phil Spector, born in the Bronx in 1940, grew up an outsider despised by his peers. But he formed a band, and had a number-one hit with "To Know Him Is to Love Him". He quickly became the top producer of early rock and roll and the originator of such girl groups as the Ronettes. Hit followed hit, and for all of them he used a new recording style called the "wall of sound". But the reign of the boy-man who owned pop music was doomed, and Spector spiraled into paranoid isolation and peculiar behavior.

happy ending
good read for this boomer! I felt I was eavesdropping on some juicy gossip. If you think you know everything about Phil Spector think again. highly recommend Be my Baby.

Ronnie comes to life.
Rosie Perez was an excellent choice to read this story aloud. I felt as if I was in a coffee shop talking with an old friend. No one else could have read the part. brava!

Incredible story
I fully enjoyed every moment of this book. Rosie was amazing and the perfect choice to narrate the story. I laughed, I cried, I was angry. Wow! There was so much I didn’t know about Ronnie and her life. She really did live quite the life. It’s too bad about the adopted sons, I cannot imagine that things turned out so great for them, Phil was a creep and people should not idolize him, he should be remembered for the freak he was!!

She was truly the inspiration for so many women singers, yet no one was ever really like her. Ronnie Spector was just a child when she began her long career, and her story is very unique in ways (being lifetime friends with Keith Richards, inviting David Bowie over to her apartment, spending time with George Harrison & John Lennon). Yet in even more ways, her life took her through very similar periods as most people of today who deal with extreme loneliness and isolation, struggling with addictions, low self-esteem keeping her in an unhappy marriage, feeling insignificant and stifled, finding joy in motherhood, looking for & finding real love. Rosie Perez reads with authenticity and great expression. Compelling & entertaining.

Be My Baby...and more.
I loved this listen. Rosie Perez is the perfect choice to narrate Ronnies's amazing life story. I pre-ordered the book after Ronnie's passing as I was interested in hearing more about her life. What a life it was! From her childhood to the rise of the Ronnetts to her marriage to Phil Spector...this book covers it all. Ronnie is open, honest and explicit about every detail of her rise and fall and eventual rise again. This is a great book.
