Louise, a young Haitian girl reeling from the sudden loss of her mother and quickly thrust into the reality of poverty, finds herself in Madame Sabia’s shop looking for an after school job. It’s only a matter of time before she turns away from the faith of her Mama and Papa, and is drawn into Madame Sabia’s world of voodoo and magic cards.

Things quickly go awry for Louise, and she finds herself running away from New Orleans. At her lowest point, three blessings in the form of three young sisters unwittingly enter her life. Suellen, Ribbi, and Eve quickly befriend Louise, but their new friendship with Louise is tested when she wants to share her magic with them. The sisters’ faith in God is stronger than Louise’s magic cards, but will they be able to share God’s message and His love with Louise?

Will she listen or turn back to her cards?

The author, June Hebert, was born and raised in New Orleans. Her life-long friend and one of the sisters in the book (Eve) inspired her to write the story. Many of the sisters’ activities and events are true. Her personal experiences are poured out in the expression of Cajun life in the bayous.
