Resumen del Editor

How many lives is a cover-up worth?

When a bridge collapses and kills six people, National Park Service Special Agent Kurt Hunter is drawn into a tangled web of political machinations. With the bridge debris scheduled to be turned into an artificial reef in the park, Kurt and Justine are in a race against time to find the party responsible.

But things are not as simple as they appear, and soon powerful political figures turn the case into a power struggle to save one of the country's biggest universities.

Excellent Mystery

Becker and McSorley do it again. The story was interesting and well written. It was fun to have the Kurt Hunter character delve into a current event.
As always, Paul McSorley does an amazing job on the narration. It's perfect.

Great Story, Great Narration!

I love the Backwater series by Steven Becker. This book is both a standalone listen and part of a series. Backwater Pass has mention of a few events from the previous books that only add to the enjoyment of this book. Kurt Hunter is the main character in this series. I love how Justine, Allie, Martinez all have cameo appearances in this book and add to the depth of character portrayal. Kurt has developed a tolerance for his boss Martinez, while his relationship with Justine is moving to the next level. As a part-time father to Allie, its neat seeing that dynamic. Kurt has a panache for finding trouble, and is in the form of concrete for this book. I love how the author writes the imagery and has attention to detail in regards in boating and diving. Paul J McSorley performs this book with the perfect emotions. His voice is so smooth, yet he adds so much to the story with how he says it, and not only what he says. I find his voice is perfect for the action, the humor, and the other scenes as well as narration. The twists in the book are awesome!

really love this mystery series

This audiobook focused on the possible cause of a true-life event. I wasn't aware of this tragedy so I headed for google for more information. Steven Becker took this event and created a fictional reason for what happened which made for a fascinating read. I'm enjoying the way Martinez and Hunter have to get along even though they both have different priorities when it comes to their jobs.

Becker's writing is very appealing to me as I love fishing and being on the water. Hunter's relationship with his daughter is very sweet to read about.

Paul J. McSorley is such a good narrator. He has a distinct voice that goes well with characters that spend a lot of time in the rustic outdoors. His female voices are well done and his voice for Hunter's daughter conveys both youth and her gender. Becker and McSorley are a great combination as they have proven with four other excellent series.

I wholeheartedly recommend Backwater Pass if you enjoy mysteries!

Martinez can never keep Kurt down!!

Our beloved National Park Service Ranger, Special Agent Kurt Hunter, is taking his daughter home after a day of diving when a bridge collapses. The bridge is owned by the local university and the lead engineer is pointing a finger at the contractor. Local authorities have decided to remove the bridge debris and create a reef in the bay. Kurt is concerned that there is more behind the bridge collapse than human error during construction. So begins Kurt's investigation...in spite of the usual constraints imposed by his supervisor, Martinez. OMG...Kurt's interaction with Martinez provides some of the best comic relief! Martinez is the stereotypical bureaucrat, who loves the lime light and is a penny pincher. Kurt is also improving his relationship with his teen daughter, thanks, in part to gf, Justine's help. Kurt finally solves the mystery...and admits his feelings to Justine. I am hooked on this series...and the awesome narration! I look forward to more.
I voluntarily accepted a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I'm in love with this series. The backstory plus the murder solving didn't let me put this book down! I listened to the last three in two days. And of course Paul's voice is incredible!

This series just keeps getting better

This continues the adventures of National Park Service Special Agent Kurt Hunter. The dumping of the concrete in the National Park gives Kurt the opening to investigate. He finds that short cuts were taken in the building of the bridge and that the idea for an artificial reef is simply a way to hide the fact. He finds many people who don't want the truth to be found and has to work around people in power to track down the persons responsible.

This series is outstanding and continues to entertain. The stories are well written. The narration is exceptional.

This book was provided free of charge with the expectation of an honest review.

Couldn't put it down!

Another episode in the life of Kurt and Justine and this one does not disappoint, either. Each time I read (listen) to a Backwater story, I am entertained by each character and how they interact with each other. One of my favorite lines is, "What the hell, Hunter!"
I listened to the audio book version of this book and Paul McSorley did not disappoint. I feel that along with the character development within the series, Paul has grown into these books, as well. I couldn't imagine another narrator.
Highly recommend this entire series.

A hard one to crack

The original crime may not have occurred in the park, but dumping all the evidence in the park gave Kurt Hunter another mystery to solve. No matter where it led, he followed the facts with the help of his girlfriend and daughter to bring justice for those who died because of greed and negligence. McSorely’s delivery and performance is rock steady. A great story - where will it lead next?

a throttle back from the last book

this book is a good solid book but not as seat edge captivating as the last , almost predictable at times . I think the ending is what elevates it to the 5 star level.
