The story follows Maia, a human who is a florist with a little bit of magic relating to plants and Ragnar, a troll whose power is in healing! Maia is given to Ragnar by her King instead of his daughter like he was supposed to. Their journey begins there. He hates her, she’s terrified of him. Until those enemies become lovers. And lovers do they become!
Highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the rest of the series!!

But I know it will be worth it because this book reads in a different way. No this book is not my favorite Emma book, mostly because I absolutely hate suspense, but as usual the female protagonist is a wonderful person that you cannot hate. The male protagonist is a wonderful person that you cannot hate and the villains are utterly detestable. This will be a great series, I hope. It has a beautiful and subtly unique plot. But Ms Hamm, why have you truncated the story of Maya and her Troll husband????? I kept waiting for the prophesy to begin to manifest... but nothing happened. I feel kind of cheated out of a happy ending. But obviously to me there is a lot in store to come and I ANGRILY await the second book.
Update: I listened to the story a second time and I felt like Ragnar's love was convenient. He needs Miya if he is to become great and his sex drive is just overheated and so hence the spice scenes. Which did not make me like him. I really like his brother Gonar. He sounds like the Ideal mate. I dont like ragnar too much anymore.

Initially I struggled with Maia’s character she has a strength of survival that many will not appreciate instead seeing her as weak. The journey she takes to find her voice is powerfully inspiring
