character development is fantastic

I love the series. great cliffhanger on this one. was gonna take a break but nope need to find out

New fan of Archer Mayor

Longtime fan of detective stories, mysteries and thrillers. I’m delighted that I’ve found a new author and narrator to thoroughly enjoy. Mayor’s knack for blending an engaging storyline and details of the locale. Funny, a few days ago my six year old grandson and I were looking at pictures of fall in Vermont. Guess I was destined to connect with this author. Always keen on a good narrator and Taylorson does not disappoint. A bad one can make even a great story a misery. Listening to a sample doesn’t always help. Victor Slezak who does lots of Sandra Brown is my favorite and Taylorson is on par.

Loved it!

Not full of suspense and a thriller but a good story and if you’ve gotten to know the characters from other books it’s a good link to them.

This series has a way of keeping you hooked

Like all series this one has its slow periods. This book isn’t one of them and is better than the previous couple. I think acts as a bridge to a new beginning for the whole cast.

Realistic not overly complicated

I’m enjoying the fact it takes place in Vermont. Easy to listen, and the plot was a little surprising. Realistic, didn’t complicate it with factual details not relevant to the plot. This was my 2nd book and will continue listening to more.

Joe’s back

An interesting political twist to the Joe Gunther saga. The story meanders a bit but is very engaging—recommend.

excellent sense of place

The reader quickly became a new favorite. His ability to give each character a unique voice, especially the female voices, is exceptional.
Being from neighboring New Hampshire and being an initerant motorcycle tourist, I especially loved to tour the rural byways in Vermont, especially the unmatched unpaved roads in that state.
Looking forward to exploring this series further!

VBI is invented

I really enjoyed this audiobook, I always love the Joe Gunther series but this one was really a whole new level. It showed Gail she really isn’t great as a prosecutor or looking at it from her point of view maybe the way a prosecutor works should change. I agree with her after listening to her explanation 100%. This book shows you how dirty politics can really be and after about chapter 23 I thought they had everything figured out and was wondering what the rest of the book was going to entail, I thought it was just going to be a bunch of filler material and boy was I wrong. This seems to be the beginning of the end for the Joe and Gail relationship. Sammy finally gets a boyfriend until she realizes he knew the criminals they were chasing too well and he lied to her, she is young and broken-hearted but I hope she finds real love in this series somewhere. Willy gets really upset when she has her boyfriend and goes to far to investigate him, there may be a crush there that is coming out more and more as this series goes along. Once again I will say you should start at book one and go through the whole series it is well worth it.

Best book in series

Love the series, think this is the best of them, ties together so many issues. Truly enjoyable.

I feel like this series just keeps getting better and better. Joe Gunther is a smart man, a heck of a detective and an all around good man. I enjoy his mind and the way he handles himself with people and the cases he has. There are always many levels to the mysteries and often we see several cases running in to one another. This one was no different. Loved it and I love the narrator.
