Resumen del Editor

A side quest novella in the best-selling Geekomancy urban fantasy series - when D&D style adventures go from the tabletop to real life, look out!

Ree Reyes, urban fantasy heroine of Geekomancy, is working her regular barista/drink-slinger shift at Grognard's when it all goes wrong. Everything.

As with Geekomancy (pop culture magic!) and its sequel, Celebromancy (celebrity magic!), Attack of the Geek is perfect for anyone who wants to visit a world "where all the books and shows and movies and games [that you] love are a source of power, not only in psychological terms, but in practical, villain-pounding ones" (Marie Brennan, award-winning author of A Natural History of Dragons).

better than the second one

No seriously this one is a return to original magic that was there in the first book. I wait excitedly for the third one to come out on audio book so I can see what happens next

Great for geeks, but not for newbs.

What did you love best about Attack the Geek?

The unabashed love for all things genre. The winks and nods to existing IPs was boggling, though with not having read the first two novels in this series, I didn't get to appreciate the winks and nods to what had come before in the series. Still, for a genre mutt like me, there was plenty to love. That said, the story is a lot of sizzle, but not much steak.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Attack the Geek?

Bruce Willis. It's not flashy like a lot of the other magic, but there is a moment when Ree harnesses the tenaciousness of John McClane in order to survive that I really enjoyed. No hurling fireballs or Spidey senses, just the yippee-ki-yay quality that only John McClane can deliver.

Have you listened to any of Mary Robinette Kowal’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first chance to listen to Mary's narration work and she does a very good job of it, perhaps due to years of hosting one of the more popular writing podcasts out there. She delivered lines with enough balance to the humor and tension that really helped the story move along.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I had the time to sit down and listen to the story in its entirety, I would definitely have tucked in for the long haul. It was a rollicking good time with few lulls (bonus points to me for using "rollicking" and "lull" is a review).

Any additional comments?

I think the book is best when read AFTER reading the first two books in the series, which I did not do. I have them on my to-be-read pile, but opted for listening to this because it was a relatively quick story and thought it might serve as a sampler for the series as a whole. Not so much, but still enjoyable.
