Resumen del Editor

This eloquent book translates attachment theory and research into an innovative framework that grounds adult psychotherapy in the facts of childhood development. Advancing a model of treatment as transformation through relationship, the author integrates attachment theory with neuroscience, trauma studies, relational psychotherapy, and the psychology of mindfulness. Vivid case material illustrates how therapists can tailor interventions to fit the attachment needs of their patients, thus helping them to generate the internalized secure base for which their early relationships provided no foundation. Demonstrating the clinical uses of a focus on nonverbal interaction, the book describes powerful techniques for working with the emotional responses and bodily experiences of patient and therapist alike.

Superb

Really well written. I love how the author alternates between theory and his real world practice. He goes onto to describe his internal world as a therapist, his irritation, exhaustion, comp'licity and attraction to his patients. Really stunning form of insight.

Awesome insights into attachment!

Narration is a bit dry, but the content provides a very thorough overview on the spectrum of attachment disorders and healing

good

It was worth the time, interesting, and helpful. A more clear recipe to improve attachment would have been nice.

Not only for therapists

To me, maybe because I don’t have a degree in psychology, this is a very comprehensive look at attachment styles. I find this to be helpful in my duty as a residential counselor. The narrator did a great job, but because of the subject matter I think I am going to get this book in print form also, so I can read it again and highlight important ideas.

Exceptional

Attachment in Psychotherapy is a wonderful resource for the patient as well as the therapist. It has been, and will continue to be a book I return to over and over, as it has helped me to understand the complex nature of my own psychotherapy. It has expanded my knowledge, and most importantly it has given me greater courage to “mentalize” more deeply with my therapist.

I'm not a therapist but still extremely helpful

I have done a lot of inner work and outward research to address my developmental trauma issues. I have a basic understanding of Attachment Theory and its role in adult life outcome. I've studied Buddhism and practice mindfulness meditation and have been constantly occupied with the subject of trauma and CPTSD for over a decade. Many of the recent books I've read have suggested finding a therapist who would provide a "secure base" and essentially re-parent the client. I found it highly improbable that any therapist would emotionally involve themselves enough to wade into the mental cess-pool of severely insecurely attached patients. However, Dr. Wallin demonstrates that there are empathic therapists willing to perform this self-less role.
This book is an excellent overview of the problem of insecure attachment in our culture and how to address it. Dr. Wallin's explication of implicit/explicit memory along with "embeddedness" and mindfulness provide an excellent inner orientation and contextualization that now helps me navigate the tempests of emotional dysregulation. This will be one of those books that is on constant repeat in my listening habits. Many thanks Dr. Wallin.

Excellent!

I really enjoyed this book. The books provide a good review of attachment theories (Bowlby, Ainsworth) and further development of this theory (Fonegy, etc.). The book is a excellent material to build a solid basic knowledge about attachment theories.

Not Intended for me, But Still Interesting

This book is directed towards other psychotherapists. I just wanted to learn about a little more about psychology. This isn't to say that the concepts are too hard to understand, but if you just want to learn about attachment psychology, there are plenty of articles online that can be read much faster. What I really enjoyed about this book was learning about the various complexities of psychotherapy. It's a dirtier job than most people probably imagine, and I'm grateful for the people who can do it.
