Resumen del Editor

The author of the 400,000-copy best seller On Killing reveals how violent video games have ushered in a new era of mass homicide - and what we must do about it.

Paducah, Kentucky, 1997: a 14-year-old boy shoots eight students in a prayer circle at his school. Littleton, Colorado, 1999: two high school seniors kill a teacher, 12 other students, and then themselves. Utoya, Norway, 2011: a political extremist shoots and kills 69 participants in a youth summer camp. Newtown, Connecticut, 2012: a troubled 20-year-old man kills 20 children and six adults at the elementary school he once attended.

What links these and other horrific acts of mass murder? A young person's obsession with video games that teach to kill.

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, who in his perennial best seller On Killing revealed that most of us are not "natural born killers" - and who has spent decades training soldiers, police, and others who keep us secure to overcome the intrinsic human resistance to harming others and to use firearms responsibly when necessary - turns a laser focus on the threat posed to our society by violent video games.

Drawing on crime statistics, cutting-edge social research, and scientific studies of the teenage brain, Col. Grossman shows how video games that depict antisocial, misanthropic, casually savage behavior can warp the mind - with potentially deadly results. His audiobook will become the focus of a new national conversation about video games and the epidemic of mass murders that they have unleashed.

Outstanding insight.

I’d expect nothing less from the Lieutenant Colonel. His insight is incredibly on the mark.

As usual, outstanding

I would expect nothing less from Lieutenant Colonel Grossman. As usual he has written a scholarly yet easy to understand book pointing out the dangers in our society as they are today. Once again a must read for anyone concerned about this terrible malady facing this generation.

Excellent book

The information in this book is so good, it is reference for any discussion you may have. I couldn’t listen to the names of the victims, made me too sad and angry. Every person and parent should listen to this book.

Important book for all to listen

This book talks about what we are putting in our heads and the heads of our children. It breaks down the time lines and provides explanation why our society is going the way it is.

A great book

A fantastic book that has outlined the reaity that we live alongside every day. It is a horrible affliction that children and adults live with all over America today. I highly recommend this book!

Both scary and inspiring

The content and volume of statistical data is horrifying. The thought that my parenting could be negatively impacting my girls future through social behavior development is rather unsettling. I hope that I can review this book annually. I will need a constant reminder to help me in making better choices as my girls grow.

I am inspired to share this book with my daughters school principal and teachers, psychologists and resource teachers. I have to assume that they are unfamiliar with this body of knowledge; or they would have aggressively promoted the information to help parents make better choices. I pray that my girls educators become familiar with the risks associated with media and content and are inspired them selves to work toward implementing the media fast.

Very Enlightening

When I first heard about Assassination Generation, I was skeptical. However, immediately after beginning the book, I knew it was going to be very “eye opening.” This book is presented very well and contains facts and the necessary documentation to support the idea that media, both TV and Video Games, are having a negative and dramatic effect on children.

I would, and have already, recommended this book to anyone who has young children, or deals with them on a daily basis (teachers, caregivers, etc.). I don’t have any children of my own, but I am an uncle to my brothers 2, soon to be 3, children and I can see how media (especially cellphones and tablets) take up so much of their young lives. At family gatherings, while all the older family members sit together and visit, all the young children can be found inside watching TV or playing video games. Something has to change, and I think this book gives the necessary insight on things to be aware of and ways to change.

Amazing read.

An incredible book narrated wonderfully by lieutenant colonel Grossman. It does get a bit repetitive and redundant at times but I understand that they're just trying to drive the point home. At some points it did feel a little preachy, just push through, it's well worth it.
