What did you love best about Another Man's Moccasins?

The story - the mystery - the friendships - clever dialogue

Would you be willing to try another book from Craig Johnson? Why or why not?

Probably, but Walt's relationship with Vic is really creepy. She's a much younger woman who once jumped on his ****. She refers to dating as "sport f***ing" (I'm not kidding) and when a Vietnamese girl is murdered, she imitates the jargon of wartime prostitutes. Yikes!! I might be done with the series - that character is really distracting. (Maybe if you are a middle aged, lonely man it would be appealing.)

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He is fabulous! Never a bad performance.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Vic was super creepy - her imitation of Asian Prostitute alleged lingo was offensive, sort of racist, vulgar.

Great, as usual

The Longmire series is consistently good, and this story is no exception.
A well balanced blend of action and subtle humor that has me cringing one moment and chuckling the next.
The characters are well thought out , and the subtle details of many different areas throughout the stories make them interesting and believable.
Guidall performs these stories with near perfection. Of all the different stories I’ve listened to over the years, this combination of story and storyteller, ranks right near the top.
I’m already looking forward to my next one.

Wonderful Characters and interesting plots are the Hallmarks of the Longmire Novels

While the murder mystery aspects of Moccasins are weaker than in the previous novels, the complex and compelling Characters and the Beautiful Prose carry you forward!

One of the best Longmire mysteries

I love the Longmire books, but had been disappointed by the preceding title (Kindness Goes Unpunished). This episode was an excellent return to form, with two intersecting narratives spaced 30 years apart, both of which really pay off. And George Guidall is a master, one of the best readers working today. A great read.

Good stuff

Love the narration. The story and backstory keep me coming back for more. Looking forward to the next one in the series.

RVN Revisit

As a former Vietnam Vet, I found myself drifting back as I listened to the latest installment of Walt Longmire and company. When a Vietnamese girl is found dead along the roadside in Longmire's jurisdiction, Walt does not only deal with the present crime, but reminisces back to his days in Vietnam around the period of the Tet Offensive in early 1968. As a veteran serving in the Army at that time, it brought back memories of my tour especially around Tet. The storyline moves between the past and present, so the listener has to pay attention, not that it is that hard as Guidall gives you a heads up as you move into the past. What unfolds is an interesting story of murder and deceit until Walt finally resolves the issue. As always, there is just the right touch of humor to amuse the listener along the way.

George Guidall does his usual fine job and I do forgive him for the slight mispronunciations of some of the Vietnamese words. Guidall brings Walt and the cast together in fine form. If you are a Vietnam Vet, definitely get this one. If not, be prepared for a little history lesson of what it was like in an around Saigon just prior and during the Tet Offensive of 1968 as Johnson blends the two story lines past and present together as the novel closes.

Excellent writing - interesting characters

Craig Johnson's series just keeps getting better. Although the flashbacks to Vietnam were mostly sad, it helped to show how Walt got to be Walt and why he & Henry are so close. As usual, the supporting characters are unique, such as a 7 foot Indian with hidden depths.

Not my favorite

A decent story, but I didn’t enjoy jumping back and forth from the present day to the Vietnam war. And I would have to listen to it again to work out some of the details I missed. Moving on to the next one in the series and hoping it’s better..

Any additional comments?

The only thing I have to say against this book is that the pause between the end of a chapter and the beginning of the next one is WAY to short.... less than one might pause when reading the end of a sentence. It's quite jarring.

Two in a row

While the past two novels have been good, I prefer the Longmire books that are set in Wyoming. While this one is technically set back in Durant, way too much takes place in Vietnam via flashbacks. It doesn't help my opinion that I don't care for dueling storylines any more than excessive flashbacks.

Even so, it's a good novel and a vital addition to the long-term story arc of Walter Longmire's life.
