Resumen del Editor

Seven hundred years ago the Anasazi people built massive cities in what is now the Southwestern United States... and then they vanished.

Stella, an archaeologist specializing in Anasazi culture, and David, a mysterious Navajo boy, are on the run from something terrifying. As they flee up into the snowy mountains of Colorado, they are carjacked by criminals. Caught in a blizzard, they must take refuge in what they believe is an abandoned cabin. It's at this cabin that they will face horrors beyond their imagination.

This book is NOT about an archeological dig site

I was disappointed that the plot summary of this book was so misleading. The book is NOT about an archeological dig site. If you listen to the sample, that is exactly where the book starts. It then goes on to 5 bank robbers who hijack the truck of the protagonist and then end up in a cabin together. Of course, with the monster thingy finding them. It wasn't a bad book, just not what it portrayed itself as being. Also, the author really did not give much history of the dig site or whether the archeologists set free the monster thing. I was left scratching my head wondering about unresolved issues. The ending certainly seemed to set up a forthcoming sequel.

Definitely worth listening to!

This was a great horror book! I usually don't listen to horror but I couldn't turn this off! Great story and great narrator!

The cover is the best part of this book

This book sounded like it would be interesting and suspenseful. The words "archaeologist," "Anasazi" and "mysterious Navajo boy" pulled me in. Instead, it was about a bunch of morons in a cabin being ordered by an unknown entity to give it certain things or face a horrible end. (Hmmmm...perhaps inspired by Robert McCammon's short story "He'll Come Knocking at Your Door," just replace the who, what, when and where?) The dialogue here was perfunctory and predictable. Words are recycled countless times. Characters perform the same ministerial acts throughout the entire story. It goes something like this: Cole yells at Jose. Jose reaches for his gun. F-words are exchanged. A character named Needles worries on his crucifix. More F-words ensue. Stella makes coffee. David holds Stella's hand. Something interesting happens. Lather, rinse, repeat. There was precious little about the history of the Anasazi and next to nada involving archaeology. There was a reference to "meat" that left me gagging and rolling my eyes at the same time. Sigh.....I'll be generous and give this book two stars.

Ancient Enemy

I wanted to like this book.An archeologist finds mystery and a young boy.She ends up running from people w/boy in tow. They face danger a plenty...but I found no actual point to it.It was a lingering storyline and I can't even remember how it ended.
I love the narrator, Teri Schnaubelt ,this was just not a good book in my opinion.

I have 3k books in my library This is in top 10!

I am surprised this series is not WILDLY popular!!!! I downloaded his other books without reading reviews or summaries! I have 3250 books in my library and this series is in my top 10! It is that good! Tufo, Correia (old before he got political and military), piperbrook, Adair, Philbrook, stansbury Smith, etc. Lukens has been

I accidentally read this out of order and I'm glad I did! It's a prequel and explains ALLOT!

Read Hope's End first. It's set in 1891 and tells you everything that's going on.

So basically a lady is being held by coworkers at a dig in the US southwest present day. Apparently they're waiting for something/someone. She, Stella, has an 8 year old boy with her named David. David is a Navajo. They are able to escape but are hijacked by bank robbers. Cole, the leader, his brother and three other men. They find an isolated cabin to wait out the storm. Two, including the brother are killed and the next night one of them comes back asking for something!!!!

You slowly get more info as to what is "out there" but if you read book 3 Hope's End it not only explains it but does not ruin or mess up anything. READ IT FIRST.

I love the series. My only complaint is that too many people freeze with a monster literally coming for them slowly and don't scream out for help or run. I can see some people doing that but more than one does in each book. It is a bit much!

I love the series and downloaded all four after reading Hope's End. I'm listening to one of his other books now "Sleep Disorders" and so far so good. Run don't walk to purchase!!!!! you will NOT regret it!!

Cabin in the woods : the tv movie

......mind numbing. As far as a story id enjoy reading it and it even seems open to a sequel -just didn't enjoy the linger of the story's location. The cabin was a stale description, a plain stage for the characters to fend off the entity. (which was barely delved into as far as its backstory)

Interesting

This book had a good storyline but the telling was repetitive. I enjoyed how the author stopped and started each chapter. The mystery was drawn out too long and the story started to get boring after they were in the cabin for a bit.

Not Perfect, but entertaining and intriguing.

Teri Schnaubelt read the story FABULOUSLY, adding to the chill factor in several parts.
The overall plot is intriguing and scary, however the writing itself fell short. Certain words -specifically a portion where the word “key(s)” in one instance- were used too frequently/close together within the same paragraph. More variations of the writing style would make the story even stronger.

good listen

What made the experience of listening to Ancient Enemy the most enjoyable?

this was a gift to me and a great listen well written and i would recommend this as a light thriller and horror.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

it was a little slow but it was suspenseful.

Nothing New Here

Almost everything about this story has been done before in one form or another. Thought it was funny that the story seemingly started in the middle. But most of this stuff I have seen before in other stories without much change to the concept.
