Resumen del Editor

This is a collection of Walter Williams’ essays, drawn from his syndicated column. Williams writes with brilliant clarity––and he doesn’t mince words. He destroys a number of prevailing myths, such as economic and social disparities being the result of racism and economic sanctions punishing the South African blacks more that the whites. Williams explains why the nature of congressmen is not to act in the national interest and shows how government regulations hinder rather than help the disadvantaged.

Listening to these columns is both entertaining and enlightening.

Reseñas de la Crítica

“Walter is (1) black, (2) opposed to the liberal cult, (3) talks sense, and (4) shows a sense of humor in his writings. This book is a real antidote to the prevailing mush of our times.” (Thomas Sowell, New York Times best-selling author)

Excellent

Mr. Williams is brilliant. We need more of this thought. What will coming generations do without this truth.

Must read

This collection by Williams should be required reading in high schools, not to mention colleges and universities.

Wow very insightful

Although the material is dated from the 1980 it is still relevant today with the issues of immigration taxation Political correction haven’t listen to this work of a hard I find it bad back in 1988 this book would not have been read by me but as an adult over 50 I know it’s easy a great book it worth reading. I considered reading again. RIP Dr. Williams

A timeless classic

Although this was written in the 1980s, much of the wisdom Williams shares applies perfectly to current events. Highly recommended.

40 years later were still fighting over the same

A great economic lesson. Pay attention to the Same arguments being used today ... Wage discrimination, everything is racism, he says I'm, and we need to have a higher minimum wage. After nearly 4 decades of failedGovernment interference, nothing really has improved.Jackson and sharpton May be less relevant but they have handed the batand at the bottom 2 uh a new generation of race Hustlers and marxists.

Tends to be repetitive, but stay with it

This book is a collection of columns Dr. Williams wrote in the 1980s and early 1990s so you will listen to the same one or another version more than once.

I finished the book a while ago, but one point sticks with me. Equality is about treat others the same way under the same rules. This is achievable; it's guaranteed.

Equity, however, is about outcomes. We cannot guarantee the same outcome for different people even when they are treated equally. I think people confuse the 2 ideas. People are different; they make different choices for different reasons. We all can't be basketball stars. We have different abilities, skills, & talents.

All you need to know

A series of op-eds from the mid 80's may seem horribly out-dated, but every one speaks directly and insightfully to the major issues of 2020 and beyond.

We lost this national treasure on Dec. 2, 2020

ALL IT TAKES IS GUTS is a compilation of newspaper columns by economics professor Walter E. Williams from the 1980's. It was originally published in 1988. Unfortunately it is the only book by Professor Williams available in audio book format. Williams died at age 84 on December 2, 2020.

Professor Williams along with his friend Thomas Sowell are among the intellectual giants of the second half of he 20th century. Although he was a Black man raised in urban poverty Williams writes with great clarity as a defender of capitalism and of the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution. This book is economic, political and social commentary.

Thomas Sowell is still living and working at age 91. Over 25 of his books are available at Audible and many of those can be listed to for free as part of Audible's Plus Catalog. Everyone is worthwhile.
